---------------------------- (NaturalNews) Ann Cameron, an author of 15 children's books, cured her Stage 4 cancer with carrot juice only. She states, "I believe from personal experience that carrots can cure cancer - and rapidly, without chemotherapy, radiation, or other dietary changes."
On June 6, 2012, Ann had surgery for Stage 3 colon cancer. She had decided against chemotherapy and actually started feeling better, until about November 6, 2012.
A routine follow-up CT scan indicated lung cancer. She was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer which had metastasized to the lungs. Her doctor predicted a two to three year life expectancy.
She was advised that radiation would be useless, and chemotherapy was recommended, but it wouldn't extend her life.
Five Pounds of Carrots Juiced Daily
Sadly, Ann's husband died of lung cancer in 2005, but not until they had tried about twenty recommended "substances" over a six month period. Ann embarked on an intensive research campaign to find an alternative protocol that would heal her.
In her search, she came across a man who had cured his cancer with nothing but carrots. His name was Ralph Cole, and he had cured his small squamous cell cancer (on his neck) by drinking 5 pounds of carrots juiced daily. Ralph shared his carrot curing protocol freely with anyone who would listen.
On November 17, Ann began a daily regimen of 5 pounds of juiced carrots (one quart to a quart and one-third daily). Ann juiced in the morning, drank a glass and then refrigerated the rest, which she finished off throughout the day. Ann faithfully continued juicing five pounds of carrots daily.
The only exception was every month or so when she was traveling she would forgo the carrot juice for three or four days consecutively.
Ann had no chemo, no radiation and no other dietary modifications except carrot juice. She continued eating meat and sometimes indulged in various unhealthy foods, including ice cream.
Ann cautioned, "I don't recommend ice cream for cancer, but only want to emphasize that drinking carrot juice was the only change I made in my life, besides gratefully accepting prayers and good energy from friends and asking for wisdom and help from Whoever is up there in the Beyond."
A PET scan (Positron Emission Tomography) on November 27, 2012, corroborated the earlier CT scan: "Enlarged swollen lymph nodes, containing two 1 inch long by 1/4 inch diameter rapidly growing tumors between the lungs."
On January 7, 2013, after eight weeks of daily carrot juicing, another follow-up CT scan revealed that the cancerous tumors had stopped growing, there had been some tumor shrinkage and there was a reduction in swollen lymph nodes.
CT Scans
March 2013: The cancer had not grown. No new cancer, no swollen lymph nodes, and tumors continued shrinking. July 30, 2013: The cancer was gone! All swollen cancerous lymph nodes had returned to normal.
Summary
• Two weeks of daily carrot juicing: no improvement.
• Eight weeks of juicing: the cancer stopped growing and tumors began shrinking.
• Four months of juicing: all the lymph nodes in the lungs were normal.
• Eight months of juicing: all the cancer was gone!
Carrots and Cancer Research
Falcarinol is an antioxidant found in carrots and has proven anticancer properties. Researchers in the UK and Denmark reduced cancerous tumors by 1/3 in mice and rats with lab induced cancers.
Additionally, a human study found that consumption of carrot juice increased blood levels of carotenoids in breast cancer survivors. The researchers believe that increased carotenoid blood levels acts as a cancer preventive.

Three Disruptive Technologies That Will Transform the World into Technocracy Within Ten Years
Three Disruptive Technologies That Will Transform The World Into Technocracy Within 10 Years
WRITTEN BY: PATRICK WOOD MARCH 24, 2017
The latest technological revolution will make existing technology look like the stone age, yet few people outside of academia and industry are even aware of it. Many, if not most, of the people who are driving these technologies are Technocrats who intend to connect the world into a single global entity. Think, ‘hive mind’, ‘global city’ and 2030 Agenda.
Three particular technologies were prominently featured at the prestigious 2017 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain from February 27 through March 2.
The first disruptive technology is 5G, or Fifth Generation, cell phone communication protocol. The first keynote speaker, Mats Granryd (Director-General of the Groupe Spéciale Mobile Association, or GSMA). His bio on the Mobile World website states,
Mats is a strong proponent of sustainability and led the mobile industry in becoming the first sector to broadly commit to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2016. He is now spearheading initiatives to amplify and accelerate the mobile industry’s impact on all 17 of the SDGs, across both developed and developing markets.
5G is widely expected to power the Internet of Everything (IoE), which includes all citizens of the world as well as all devices in the Internet of Things (IoT). This new standard will be common by 2020 and ubiquitous by 2025. It improves current 4G performance by orders of magnitude.
5G is expected to provide mobile users with every metropolitan area with at least 100 megabits per second connectivity. When you consider devices associated with people – mobile phones, fitness wearables, erc. – and with inanimate objects such as smart meters, cameras, thermostats, light bulbs and a myriad of sensors through homes and neighborhoods, the entire conglomeration can be viewed and managed in real-time.
Incidentally, there are many critics warning about the radiation dangers associated with 5G, but industry proponents are basically ignoring, if not suppressing, these dangers while moving ahead at breakneck speed.
Speakers at Mobile World reiterated their goal of creating a ‘global mind’ that would be enabled by 5G in conjunction with Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is the second major disruptive technology to consider.
Most people have already made contact with AI in one form or another: Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa, Microsoft’s Cortana, Google’s Assistant and Soundhound’s Hound, among others. Many website support centers are really AI ‘Chatbots’, but you would never know it. Driverless cars are predicated on AI. Future medical diagnoses will be delivered by AI system like IBM’s Watson.
5G will provide a rocket booster to AI, where decisions and outcomes will be made and delivered in real-time, as if the system as a whole was a living, breathing person. A super-intelligence. If you will, a ‘Global Brain’.
The third disruptive technology is a new super-material called Graphene. Although scientists had an awareness of it for decades, Graphene was only rediscovered in 2004. Since then global academia and industry have dumped hundreds of millions of dollars into R&D because it will revolutionize several entire industries at once, from IoT to wearables to energy to computers and data communications.
Graphene is an two-dimensional (e.g., one atom thick) atomic-scale hexagonal lattice made of Carbon atoms. It is 200 times stronger than steel and yet is flexible like skin. It conducts heat and is as conductive as silicon used in semiconductors.
The University of Manchester, where Graphene was re-discovered in 2004, states that “combining all of graphene’s amazing properties could create an impact of the scale last seen with the Industrial Revolution.” It goes on to say,
Transport, medicine, electronics, energy, defence, desalination; the range of industries where graphene research is making an impact is substantial. This is only the start. These are only the first steps. The potential of graphene is limited only by our imagination.
Thus, it was not surprising that the Graphene Flagship was front and center at Mobile World 2017.
Some of the further applications it defines include film sensors, night vision imaging, flexible displays and sensors, flexible wellness sensors, electronic skin, flexible WIFI receivers, camera lenses, supercapacitors and batteries, computer chips, sensors in wearable technology, and the list goes on and on. Did I mention sensors? Think, Internet of Everything!
If you need more proof, consider this. According to the brochure, the bottom line was seen in the Graphene Connect Workshop titled, “From Datacom To IoT – Enabled By Graphene“.
Taken as a package, these three technologies – 5G, AI and Graphene – are fully expected to bring about the new world scientific order. A global brain. A hive mind. Symbiotic command and control.
Like Mats Granryd stated above, the mobile industry supports not only the broad idea of the United Nation’s 2030 Agenda, but every single one of its so-called Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs).
It’s all about connectivity and control. It’s Scientific Dictatorship. In one word, it’s Technocracy.
p.s. If there were ever a reason to read my book, Technocracy Rising: The Trojan Horse of Global Transformation, this is it and the time is now. It is also available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle version.
Technocracy Rising connects all the dots that you need in order to understand the modern onslaught of societal control and transformation by technology.

Most of the foods we eat nowadays harm our bodies. They are toxic and form acid in the body. The effects of such foods plus other factors like stress, lack of sleep and hormonal imbalances increase risk of diseases and make it hard to lose weight.
Eating alkaline foods is a great way to reduce risk of diseases, stay energized and lose fat. It’s worth noting that most alkaline foods are plant-based foods. Here are 10 alkaline foods you should be eating.
1. Almonds
Unlike most nuts, which are acidic, almonds are alkaline. Research shows that they lower bad cholesterol and boost energy levels. Drinking almond milk can also give you these health benefits.
2. Broccoli
Broccoli is a highly alkalizing food. According to research, broccoli fights cancer, improves digestion, detoxifies the body, and improves cardiovascular system. Find different ways to add broccoli to your diet and make sure you eat it at least 4 times a week.
3. Avocado
Avocado is one of those foods you should eat every day. It will neutralize the acids in your stomach, reduce risk of cancer, lower bad cholesterol and improve heart health. Note that saturated fats from avocados aren’t bad for your health, but if you’re trying to lose weight calories are a concern, one large avocado has 400 calories.
4. Spinach
Spinach is one of the healthiest leafy greens. It’s highly alkaline and has lots of health benefits. Add it to your salads, smoothies, and main meals.
5. Cucumber
Cucumbers have high water content and can keep you hydrated. They also contain antioxidants which fight inflammation. Lastly, research shows that cucumbers reduce risk of cardiovascular disease and fight different types of cancer.
6. Celery
Celery is rich in vitamin C, which plays a vital role in our health. Vitamin C fights inflammation, strengthens immune system and improves cardiovascular health. Luckily, it’s easy to add celery in your diet, put it in smoothies, soups, and main meals.
7. Ripe bananas
All bananas aren’t the same. Unripe bananas are acidic and can cause stomach upset. But ripe bananas (with brown spots) are highly alkalizing and have plenty of vitamins and minerals.
8. Watermelon
Watermelons will remove toxins in your body due to high water and fiber content. They’ll also give you alkalinity and lots of nutrients.
9. Lemons
There’s a misconception that lemons are acidic but after digestion they become alkaline. Add a slice of lemon to drinking water or drink fresh lemon juice to get the many health benefits of lemons.
10. Kale
Kale is known for its disease fighting abilities. It can lower bad cholesterol, reduce risk of cancer, and detoxify the body. Eat kale 3-4 times a week to get these benefits.

Lungs Make Blood
An Unexpected New Lung Function Has Been Found - They Make Blood
Things just got complicated.
Researchers have discovered that the lungs play a far more complex role in mammalian bodies than we thought, with new evidence revealing that they don't just facilitate respiration - they also play a key role in blood production.
In experiments involving mice, the team found that they produce more than 10 million platelets (tiny blood cells) per hour, equating to the majority of platelets in the animals' circulation. This goes against the decades-long assumption that bone marrow produces all of our blood components.

Important Safety Information
What is the most important information I should know about Nplate®?
Nplate® can cause serious side effects:
- Worsening of a precancerous blood condition to a blood cancer (leukemia):
Nplate® is not for use in people with a precancerous condition called myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) or for any condition other than chronic (lasting a long time) immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). If you have MDS and receive Nplate®, your MDS condition may worsen and become an acute leukemia. If MDS worsens to become acute leukemia you may die sooner from the acute leukemia. - Higher risk for blood clots:
- You may have a higher risk of getting a blood clot if your platelet count becomes high during treatment with Nplate®. You may have severe complications or die from some forms of blood clots, such as clots that spread to the lungs or that cause heart attacks or strokes. Your healthcare provider will check your blood platelet counts and change your dose or stop Nplate® if your platelet counts get high.
- If you have a chronic liver disease, you may get blood clots in the veins of your liver. This may affect your liver function.
- Loss of response: If you do not experience results from Nplate®, your immune system may have created a response that is counteractive to Nplate®. Your healthcare provider will monitor your platelet counts and test your blood regularly to determine if this is an issue.
- Blood test monitoring: Your healthcare provider will check your platelet count every week and change your dose of Nplate® as needed. This will continue until your healthcare provider decides that your dose of Nplate® can stay the same. After that, you will need to have blood tests every month. When you stop receiving Nplate®, you will need blood tests for at least 2 weeks to check if your platelet count drops too low.
- What are the possible side effects of Nplate®?
- Nplate® may cause serious side effects. See "What is the most important information I should know about Nplate®?"
- The most common side effects of Nplate® are:
- Headache

Researchers from the University of California, San Francisco also discovered a previously unknown pool of blood stem cells that makes this happen inside the lung tissue - cells that were incorrectly assumed to mainly reside in bone marrow.
"This finding definitely suggests a more sophisticated view of the lungs - that they're not just for respiration, but also a key partner in formation of crucial aspects of the blood," says one of the researchers, Mark R. Looney.
"What we've observed here in mice strongly suggests the lung may play a key role in blood formation in humans as well."
While the lungs have been known to produce a limited amount of platelets - platelet-forming cells called megakaryocytes have been identified in the lungs before - scientists have long assumed that most of the cells responsible for blood production are kept inside the bone marrow.
Here, a process called haematopoiesis was thought to churn out oxygen-laden red blood cells, infection-fighting white blood cells, and platelets - blood components required for the clotting that halts bleeding.
But scientists have now watched megakaryocytes functioning from within the lung tissue to produce not a few, but most of the body's platelets.

So how did we miss such a crucial biological process this whole time?
The discovery was made possible by a new type of technology based on two-photon intravital imaging - a similar technique to one used by a separate team this week to discover a previously unidentified function of the brain's cerebellum.
The process involves inserting a substance called green fluorescent protein (GFP) into the mouse genome - a protein that's naturally produced by bioluminescent animals such as jellyfish, and is harmless to living cells.
The mouse platelets started to emit bright green fluorescence as they circulated around the body in real time, allowing the team to trace their paths like never before.
They noticed a surprisingly large population of platelet-producing megakaryocytes inside the lung tissue, which initially didn't make much sense, seeing as they're usually associated with bone marrow.
"When we discovered this massive population of megakaryocytes that appeared to be living in the lung, we realised we had to follow this up," says one of the team, Emma Lefrançais.
They found that this huge supply of megakaryocytes is actually producing more than 10 million platelets per hour in the lungs of mice, which means at least half of the body's total platelet production is occurring in the lungs.
Here's what it looks like:

Further experiments also revealed vast amounts of previously hidden blood stem cells and megakaryocyte progenitor cells (cells that give rise to megakaryocyte and red blood cells) sitting just outside the lung tissue - about 1 million per mouse lung.
When the researchers traced the entire 'life cycle' of the megakaryocytes, they found that they likely originate in the bone marrow, then make their way to the lungs, where they start platelet production.
"It's fascinating that megakaryocytes travel all the way from the bone marrow to the lungs to produce platelets," says one of the team, Guadalupe Ortiz-Muñoz.
"It's possible that the lung is an ideal bioreactor for platelet production because of the mechanical force of the blood, or perhaps because of some molecular signalling we don't yet know about."
The researchers wanted to investigate if their discovery could have an effect on how we treat disorders such as lung inflammation, bleeding, and transplantation in the future, by transplanting lungs with fluorescent megakaryocyte progenitor cells into mice with low platelet counts.
The transplants produced a massive burst of platelets that quickly restored the depleted platelet counts to normal levels, and the effect lasted for several months.
Another experiment tested what would happen if the bone marrow wasn't playing a role in blood production.
The team implanted lungs with fluorescent megakaryocyte progenitor cells into mice that had been engineered to have no blood stem cells in their bone marrow.
As Michael Irving reports for New Atlas, they watched as the fluorescent cells from the transplanted lungs made their way to the bone marrow, where they not only helped to produce platelets, but also other key blood components, such as neutrophils, B cells and T cells.
The findings will need to be replicated in humans before we can know for sure that the same process is occurring within our own bodies, but the study makes a strong case for this hidden function in what could be one of our most underrated organs.
It will likely also prompt scientists to investigate further how the bone marrow and lungs work together to produce our blood supply.
"It has been known for decades that the lung can be a site of platelet production, but this study amplifies this idea by demonstrating that the [mouse] lung is a major participant in the process," Traci Mondoro from the US National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, who was not involved in the study, said in a press statement.
"Looney and his team have disrupted some traditional ideas about the pulmonary role in platelet-related hematopoiesis, paving the way for further scientific exploration of this integrated biology."
The research has been published in Nature.

WARNING: Sugar destroys your body’s ability to absorb these 5 essential nutrients

(Natural News) The sugar industry in the U.S. thrives at a whopping $100 billion in annual revenue. That is because Americans consume an average of 150 lbs of sugar per year. Most people are aware of the adverse effects of excessive sugar consumption such as obesity, diabetes, and cancer. However, what is known as well-known is that high sugar intake leads to nutrient deficiency. Excessive sugar intake was shown to deplete and reduce the absorption of essential vitamins and minerals needed by the body.
High sugar intake robs the body of essential nutrients
The human body can synthesize vitamin C on its own, but eating too much sugar limits the beneficial effects of the vitamin. Sugar and vitamin C use the same transporters to reach the cells. More sugar in the blood stream means more competition for vitamin C absorption. Increased glucose levels appear to inhibit vitamin C from entering the cells, thereby resulting in limited vitamin absorption. Sugar-induced vitamin C deficiency may result in suppressed tissue regeneration and decreased immune function.
Vitamin D, another important nutrient, can also fall prey to sugar’s unwanted effects. Sugar promotes the expression of enzymes that degrade vitamin D, while simultaneously decreasing enzymes needed to synthesize the vitamin. This then results in vitamin D deficiency. Low vitamin levels were tied to various health conditions such as autoimmunity, dementia, and infection as well as inflammation and certain types of cancer. Vitamin D deficiency was more common in regions with the least amount of sunlight.
Excessive sugar intake results in high blood sugar levels and increased insulin rates. In turn, higher blood sugar and insulin levels promote magnesium excretion by the kidneys, thereby inhibiting tubular reabsorption of the mineral. This prompts the body to use up its magnesium reserves. Magnesium is essential in certain body functions such as blood sugar control, muscle and nerve regulation, and bone building. Excreting this essential mineral from the body can lead to adverse health effects.
Eating too much sugar greatly affects chromium absorption in the body. Similar to magnesium, sugar triggers chromium deficiency by prompting the body to excrete the essential mineral. One study revealed that eating a diet containing 35% sugar leads to a 10% increase in chromium excretion. Chromium is a key mineral the promotes blood glucose control, insulin binding, and macronutient metabolism. Chromium deficiency leads to high blood sugar levels and poor glucose tolerance.
Calcium is vital for skeletal health, blood clotting, and electrolyte balance. Vitamin D expedites calcium absorption in the body by regulating calcium transport in the small intestine. Excessive sugar intake was shown to negatively affect vitamin D absorption, which in turn causes a ripple effect to the body’s calcium absorption. Sugar was also shown to promote calcium excretion by inhibiting tubular reabsorption by the kidneys. Low calcium levels result in unwanted health conditions.
Sweet killer: The nasty effects of high sugar intake on the body
People are becoming more aware of the undesirable health consequences of excessive sugar intake through extensive research and information dissemination. Sugar is associated with a host of other damaging reactions. To wit: eating too much sugar leads to suppressed immune function and triggers hyperactivity in children. It may lead to kidney damage, increased blood acidity, and advanced aging.
Tooth decay, arthritis, asthma, as well as digestive disorders and candida albicans (a fungus that causes yeast infections) are also among the results of excessive sugar intake. Consuming high amounts of sugar can result in atherosclerosis, eczema, asthma, depression, and free radical formation. Decreased cardiac blood flow, brittle tendons and increased liver and kidney sizes were also among the most hazardous effects of sugar.

(Natural News) An exciting medical breakthrough published in the science journal Oncotarget has discovered the astonishing ability of concentrated vitamin C to halt the growth of cancer tumor stem cells.
The study, conducted at the University of Salford in Manchester — (see full text of the study at this link) — tested the impact on cancer stem cell metabolism for seven substances:
- Three natural substances, including vitamin C
- Three experimental pharmaceuticals
- One clinical drug currently in widespread use
The study’s astonishing results reveal “the first evidence that Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) can be used to target and kill cancer stem cells (CSCs), the cells responsible for fuelling fatal tumours,” reports the flagship science publisher Alpha Galileo.
Vitamin C found to work up to 10 times better than a cancer pharmaceutical
Led by Michael P. Lisanti and Gloria Bonuccelli, the study results astonished researchers when it found that vitamin C worked up to 10 times better than a pharmaceutical cancer drug at interfering with cancer stem cell metabolism, effectively shutting down cancer tumors’ ability to process cellular energy for survival and growth.
“Vitamin C is cheap, natural, non-toxic and readily available so to have it as a potential weapon in the fight against cancer would be a significant step,” said Dr. Michael P. Lisanti, Professor of Translational Medicine at the University of Salford, in the Alpha Galileo summary of his research. It goes on to report:
Vitamin C has previously been shown to be effective as a non-toxic anti-cancer agent in studies by Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling and was recently shown to reduce mortality by 25% on breast cancer patients in Japan. However, its effects on CSC activity have not been previously evaluated and in this context, it behaves as an inhibitor of glycolysis, which fuels energy production in mitochondria, the “powerhouse” of the cell.
Great promise for IV vitamin C therapy as a complementary or alternative cancer treatment
Don’t believe doctors who smugly claim vitamin C has no ability to treat cancer. While the potency of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) used in the study is more than what could be achieved by eating oranges or other vitamin C-rich foods, the high concentration of the powerful nutrient could be achieved through intravenous (IV) therapy.
IV vitamin C therapy is readily available in some “alternative” cancer clinics throughout the world, and this research breakthrough could lead to more clinical trials that might one day see vitamin C used more widely throughout complementary and alternative medicine (CAM).
If these results had been attributed to a patented Big Pharma chemical, it would be heralded as a “miracle cancer drug” breakthrough. But don’t hold your breath waiting for the medical establishment to celebrate this discovery… vitamin C can’t be patented, and it’s incredibly inexpensive, meaning there’s no financial incentive for any cancer clinic to promote vitamin C when they can make far more money off the profits of chemotherapy.
The original study, published in Oncotarget at this link, concludes that “Vitamin C was ~10 times more potent than 2-DG for the targeting of CSCs.” (2-DG refers to an experimental cancer pharmaceutical, and CSC refers to Cancer Stem Cells.)

New science once again proves “skeptics” are hopelessly ignorant when it comes to advanced medicine
Not surprisingly, to this day, drug-pushing science “skeptics” continue to ridiculously claim that vitamin C has no medicinal use whatsoever and that only chemotherapy can treat cancer, not nutritional therapies. Even the science writers in the fake science media — NYT, CNN, Washington Post, etc. — seem to have no knowledge whatsoever of nutritional therapies for cancer, diabetes, heart disease or other chronic conditions.
It just goes to show you how incredibly ignorant and even nutritionally illiterate the medical “status quo” remains in our pharma-dominated world where profits are far more important to medicine than actually helping people overcome cancer.

H. pylori infection may be treated effectively with two ancient food-based remedies, new research suggests.
Natural solutions for H. pylori are gaining increased attention due to the failure of conventional antibiotics to produce a permanent resolution of the condition without attendant adverse effects. In a previous post entitled “3 Natural H. Pylori 'Cures' That Are Clinically Proven,” we reported on broccoli sprouts, probiotics, and black seed, as evidence-based natural interventions. Now, a new study published in the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents reveals that black seed in combination with honey results in the resolution of about 1 in 2 cases of H. pylori infection.
The study entitled, "Combination of Nigella sativa and Honey in Eradication of Gastric Helicobacter pylori Infection," provided background on the increasing problem of antibiotic-resistant cases of H. pylori in the studied Iranian population:
“Owing to the alarming rate of anti-H. pylori drug resistance (14% - 45% for clarithromycin, 40% - 65% for metronidazole, and 2-37% for amoxicillin in Iran), eradication of H. pylori remains a global challenge (2, 5, 6).”
Due to the state of conventional treatment, the authors sought to test “new safe, feasible and affordable alternatives.”
The study design was described as follows:
"Nineteen patients who had positive result for H. pylori infection by urea breath test (UBT) without a past history of peptic ulcer, gastric cancer or gastrointestinal bleeding, were suggested to receive one teaspoon of the mixture of Dosin (6 g/day of N. sativa as ground seeds and 12 g/day of honey) three times a day after meals for two weeks. The second UBT was used to detect the presence of H. pylori four weeks after completion of the test. In addition, symptoms of dyspepsia were scored before and after the study and analyzed with Wilcoxon signed-rank test."
The results were reported as follows:
"Fourteen patients completed the study. Negative UBT was observed in 57.1% (8/14) of participants after intervention. The median and interquartile range (IQR) of total dyspepsia symptoms was significantly reduced from 5.5 (5 - 12) to 1 (0 - 4) (P = 0.005). All the patients tolerated Dosin except for one who was excluded due to mild diarrhea. No serious adverse events were reported."
These results are remarkable when you consider that two previous studies using conventional antibiotics, also conducted on Iranian population, resulted in slightly lower rates of eradication. The first which involved the use of 4 drugs (omeprazole, amoxicillin, each administered twice daily for the first five days, followed by omeprazole, clarithromycin and furazolidone, twice daily for the remaining nine days) resulted in eradication in 50.9% of patients. The second study, which used 4 drugs, (omeprazole, clarithromycin, amoxicillin and bismuth twice daily for 14 days) resulted in 49.1% reduction.
The researchers also pointed out that even though their combination of honey and black seed may not eradicate H. pylori in all cases, it has a palliative effect in gastrointestinal symptoms in non-ulcer dyspepsia. This is likely not true for conventional antibiotics which may have a wide range of adverse effects related to the depopulation of beneficial gut bacteria. In fact, we recently reported on the use of a special form of honey to treat one of the most common and deadly forms of antibiotic-related infections, namely , C. difficile. H. pylori infection is often treated with three drugs simultaneously, but not everyone responds favorably. Thankfully there are clinically confirmed natural, food-based alternatives.
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a bacteria estimated to be found in the body of two-thirds of the world's population naturally, and usually does not cause symptoms. But in some cases it can be found as a contributing factor in ulcers, and may even drive some forms of gastric cancer. Modern treatment for H. pylori infection focuses on total eradication using so-called "triple therapy," which includes two antibiotics and an acid-blocker. Treatment of this kind, however, often results in antibiotic-associated imbalances in the gut flora, as well as driving antibiotic-resistant strains of H. pylori which can cause more serious forms of recurrence. This is one reason why there is growing interest in natural alternatives to drug-based treatment, and why we are excited to highlight some of the more compelling research out there on 'natural cures' to this common problem.
Here are three clinically tested solutions that may work in tandem, or as a complete alternative to conventional treatment:
- Broccoli Sprouts: A study published in Digestive Diseases and Sciences in 2004 titled, "Oral broccoli sprouts for the treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection: a preliminary report", found that seven of nine patients (78%) who consumed broccoli sprouts (14, 28, or 56 g) twice daily for 7 days were stool antigen negative for H. pylori infection immediately after the completion of therapy and six remained negative at day 35. Broccoli sprouts contain extremely high levels of the sulfur-containing biomolecule sulforaphane which we have identified research on mitigating over 150 different diseases.
- Probiotics: A 2012 study published in Inflammation and Allergy Drug Targets titled, "Probiotic multistrain treatment may eradicate Helicobacter pylori from the stomach of dyspeptics: a placebo-controlled pilot study", found that a 10-day treatment with a multi-strain probiotic in patients with H. pylori associated dyspepsia resulted in 13 of the 40 patients experiencing complete eradication. (Note: The patients received 1.8 trillion alive of the following strains: Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus plantarum, Bifidobacteriuym brevis, Lactobacillus paracasei, Bifidobacterium infantis, Lactobaccilus delbrueckii bulgaricus subspecies). Probiotics fight infection naturally. For additional information consult our research page on probiotics which includes research on its value in over 200 conditions, many of which are infection-related.
- Black Seed (Nigella Sativa): A 2010 study published in the Saudi Journal of Gastroenterology titled, "Comparative study of Nigella Sativa and triple therapy in eradication of Helicobacter Pylori in patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia", found that a dose of only 2 grams of black seed (Nigella Sativa) in combination with an acid blocker was about as effective (67%) as triple therapy (which includes an acid blocker, and two antibiotics) in treating H. pylori infection. Black seed has been studied to have value in a wide range of conditions. Consult our black seed database page for more information.
In addition to these solutions, please consult our growing Helicobacter pylori research page which includes over 50 studied natural, evidence-based interventions, including possible problem substances such as aspirin which may cause underlying damage to the mucosal lining of the digestive tract, producing conditions that lead to the opportunistic overgrowth of "bad" bacteria such as H. pylori.
Also, you can learn more by reading a really wonderful 2014 review published in the World Journal of Gastroenterology titled, "Exploring alternative treatments for Helicobacter pylori infection", looked at over 300 studies published between 1991 and 2013 which covered plant-based anti-H. pylori activity from around the world, highlighting garlic, licorice, broccoli, green tea, probiotics and the bee products honey and propolis.

Symptoms of Electrolyte Imbalance and how to solve it Josh Axe
Symptoms of Electrolyte Imbalance, Plus How to Solve It
Electrolytes are certain nutrients (or chemicals) present in your body that have many important functions — from regulating your heartbeat to allowing your muscles to contract so you can move.
The major electrolytes found within the body include calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, phosphate and chloride. Because these crucial nutrients help stimulate nerves throughout the body and balance fluid levels, an electrolyte imbalance can cause a variety of serious negative symptoms, including some that are potentially deadly.
You obtain electrolytes through eating different foods and drinking certain fluids, while you lose them partially through exercise, sweating, going to the bathroom and urinating. This is why a poor diet, too little or too much exercise, and being sick are some possible causes for an electrolyte imbalance.
Some of the major roles that electrolytes have within the body include:
- Calcium: helping with muscle contractions, nerve signaling, blood clotting, cell division, and forming/maintaining bones and teeth
- Potassium: helping keep blood pressure levels stable, regulating heart contractions, helping with muscle functions
- Magnesium: needed for muscle contractions, proper heart rhythms, nerve functioning, bone-building and strength, reducing anxiety, digestion, and keeping a stable protein-fluid balance
- Sodium: helps maintain fluid balance, needed for muscle contractions, and helps with nerve signaling
- Chloride: maintains fluid balance
How Electrolytes Work and the Causes of an Imbalance
Electrolytes are found within bodily fluids, including urine, blood and sweat. Electrolytes are given their name because they literally have an “electric charge.” They separate into positively and negatively charged ions when they’re dissolved in water. The reason this is important is because of how nerve reactions take place. Your nerves signal to one another by a process of chemical exchanges dependent on oppositely charged ions, both outside and inside of your cells.
An electrolyte imbalance can be caused by a number of different factors, including short-term illnesses, medications, dehydration and underlying chronic disorders. Some of the common causes of electrolyte imbalance are due to fluid loss, which can stem from situations including:
- Being sick with symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, sweating or high fevers that can all produce fluid loss or dehydration
- A poor diet that’s low in essential nutrients from whole foods
- Trouble absorbing nutrients from food (malabsorption) due to intestinal or digestive issues
- Hormonal imbalances and endocrine disorders
- Taking certain medications including those for treating cancer, heart disease or hormonal disorders
- Taking antibiotics, over-the-counter diuretics or medications, or corticosteroid hormones
- Kidney disease or damage (since the kidneys play a critical role in regulating chloride in your blood and “flushing out” potassium, magnesium and sodium)
- Chemotherapy treatments, which can cause side effects of low blood calcium or calcium deficiency, changes in blood potassium levels, and other electrolyte deficiencies
Signs and Symptoms of an Electrolyte Imbalance
Because electrolytes have so many different roles within the body, an imbalance normally causes noticeable changes in how you feel pretty quickly. Depending on the type of electrolyte imbalance you experience, a number of symptoms can occur including:
- Muscle aches, spasms, twitches and weakness
- Restlessness
- Anxiety
- Frequent headaches
- Feely very thirsty
- Insomnia
- Fever
- Heart palpitations or irregular heartbeats
- Digestive issues like cramps, constipation or diarrhea
- Confusion and trouble concentrating
- Bone disorders
- Joint pain
- Blood pressure changes
- Changes in appetite or body weight
- Fatigue (including chronic fatigue syndrome)
- Numbness and pain in joints
- Dizziness, especially when standing up suddenly
To diagnose an electrolyte imbalance, your doctor can perform a few different tests to determine your electrolyte levels. Most likely your health care provider will discuss your medical history with you, any reoccurring symptoms you experience, and take a urine and blood test to identify any abnormalities.
It’s also sometimes necessary to have an EKG test, ultrasound or X-rays of your kidneys in order to look for severe electrolyte imbalances that can put you at risk for heart complications.
Your doctor will look for any noticeable changes in optimal electrolyte levels, including very high or low potassium, magnesium or sodium levels. These are usually fairly easy to spot since the body works very hard to keep electrolyte concentrations within a narrow range. Levels are measured per liter of blood, and an electrolyte imbalance is diagnosed when you either have a value higher or lower than the normal ranges below:
- Calcium: 5–5.5 mEq/L
- Chloride: 97–107 mEq/L
- Potassium: 5–5.3 mEq/L
- Magnesium: 1.5-2.5 mEq/L
- Sodium: 136–145 mEq/L
How do you know when it’s time to speak with a doctor about whether or not you might have an electrolyte imbalance? If you can identify with the descriptions of electrolyte imbalance symptoms below, it’s best to talk visit a health care provider to talk about how to reverse the problem and prevent it from happening again. Here are some of the common signs of experiencing an electrolyte balance and a bit more about what can cause each one:
- Changes in Heartbeat: When potassium rises to very high levels, a condition called hyperkalemia develops. This interferes with the normal signals sent from nerves to muscles, which can result in muscles becoming weak, tingly or numb. At the same time, high potassium can impact your heartbeat and cause rapid rhythms that make you feel anxious. Also, one of the main effects of high calcium levels is on the cardiovascular system and electrical transmission pathways of the heart, so very high calcium levels are another common cause of heartbeat changes.
- Anxiety and Trouble Sleeping: Most of us know how hard it is to fall and stay asleep when we have muscle spasms, a fast heartbeat or night sweats. Despite feeling like you’re always tired, low magnesium levels and high potassium can cause trouble getting good rest because of ongoing pains and mental disturbances.
- Muscle Spasms: When dehydration occurs or potassium and magnesium levels fall abruptly, muscle weakness and spasms are usually some of the first signs. Very low potassium levels (hypokalemia) can also cause cramps and constipation. Low calcium levels (hypocalcemia) also causes muscle spasms, cramps, abdominal muscle pain and convulsions.
- Digestive Issues: The muscles within your digestive tract need to contract properly in order to help you go to the bathroom. So either high or low levels of electrolytes can result in diarrhea, constipation, cramping or hemorrhoids. Nausea is also sometimes caused by very low sodium levels (called hyponatremia). This same condition can be followed by headaches, disorientation and respiratory problems when it’s left unresolved.
- Bone Pains: Very high calcium levels (called hypercalcemia) can result in bone fractures, painful kidney stones, vomiting and constipation. The same condition can also make you feel tired and weak, with trouble concentrating.
- Confusion, Dizziness and Irritability: When your sodium levels rise too drastically (called hypernatremia), you can become dizzy and weak. When this worsens, it’s possible to become even more delirious and even experience a seizure or coma.
How to Solve an Electrolyte Imbalance
1. Adjust Your Diet
The first step to correcting an electrolyte imbalance is to identify how it developed in the first place. For many people, a poor diet that’s high in processed foods containing lots of sodium, but low in other electrolytes like magnesium or potassium, paves the way for a dangerous imbalance. In many cases, a minor electrolyte imbalance can be corrected by simply making dietary changes and cutting way back on junk foods, takeout and restaurant foods, while instead cooking more fresh foods at home.
Focus your diet around whole, unpackaged foods — especially plenty of vegetables and fruits that provide potassium and magnesium. Some of the best include leafy greens, cruciferous veggies like broccoli or cabbage, starchy vegetables like sweet potatoes or squash, bananas, and avocados. A diet that’s rich in magnesium or potassium likely can be enough to solve problems like low potassium levels that can lead to blood pressure problems or magnesium deficiency that can contribute to anxiety, restlessness and muscle cramps.
To prevent dehydration and restore electrolytes, focus on these foods — which are some of the most hydrating due to being very water-dense:
- Coconut water
- Celery
- Watermelon
- Cucumber
- Kiwi
- Bell peppers
- Citrus fruit
- Carrots
- Cultured dairy (amasai/kefir/yogurt)
- Pineapple
Another thing to consider is whether you’re consuming enough calcium. With or without eating dairy products, it’s possible to get calcium from leafy greens, other veggies, beans and legumes. To obtain enough calcium naturally without needing supplements, consider adding high-quality and ideally raw dairy products to your diet if you can tolerate them. Foods like organic probiotic yogurt, cultured raw cheeses and raw milk provide high levels of electrolytes in addition to other important nutrients.
2. Monitor Your Sodium Intake
When you do consume packaged or processed foods, check the sodium levels. Sodium is an electrolyte that plays a significant part in the body’s ability to retain or release water, so if your diet is very high in sodium, more water is excreted by the kidneys, and this can cause complications with balancing other electrolytes.
Here’s how sodium works within the body: Essentially, water follows salt, which means if you increase sodium too much, water retention also occurs. At the same time, the opposite is also true: A loss in sodium results in a loss in water, potentially causing dehydration and extreme thirst. Hypernatremia (the name of the condition that develops when either too much water is lost or too much sodium is obtained) is more common among older adults, people with diabetes and those who eat heavily processed diets. People can also lose a high level of sodium through diarrhea, taking certain diuretics or laxatives, and exercising to extreme levels and overtraining without staying hydrated — all of which cause problems of their own.
Monitoring how much sodium you consume helps keep symptoms at bay, including bloating, lethargy, dehydration, weakness, irritability and muscle twitching. Drinking water and eating mostly whole foods (not the kinds that come in packages!) also ensures you obtain enough other important electrolytes.
3. Drink Enough Water (but Not Too Much)
Electrolyte imbalances can develop when the amount of water in your body changes, either causing dehydration (not enough water compared to certain elevated electrolytes) or overhydration (too much water). Drinking enough water, without over-diluting your cells, helps stop levels of sodium and potassium from rising too high or too low.
How much water is the right amount for you? It all depends on your specific needs. Do you exercise often? Do you live in a warm climate that results in you sweating? Do you eat a lot of water-rich fruits or vegetables, or more processed foods?
While “eight glasses a day” has always been the standard recommendation, this isn’t necessarily the best amount for every person, since factors like your diet, age, physical activity level and body size all determine how much water you need. A good rule of thumb is to drink enough so you urinate at least every three to four hours, which for most people is around eight to 10 eight-ounce glasses daily.
If you practice vigorous exercise (especially in warm/hot weather that increases sweat production), make sure to replenish with plenty of water and electrolytes (like premade formulas that include sodium). If you’ve been sick (including with a fever that causes vomiting or diarrhea), keep in mind that you lose fluids and should increase your intake. If not, you risk developing dehydration symptoms, kidney stones, bladder infections, urinary tract stones and potentially even heart failure. That’s why it’s so important to protect yourself from dehydration. Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding also need additional fluids (about 10–13 cups every day) to stay hydrated and prevented deficiencies, as do teenagers who are growing and developing faster than people of other ages.
Is it possible to drink too much water? Over-hydration is rare, but yes, it’s possible. Your kidneys are unable to excrete very high levels of excess water, so this can mean electrolytes within the blood can become diluted. The result might be low sodium levels, which is more common among endurance athletes (who often try to compensate for sweating by drinking lots of water) but not very likely to develop in someone eating the standard American diet that’s high in salt.
4. Check Your Medications
Antibiotics, diuretics, hormonal pills, blood pressure medications and cancer treatments can all impact electrolyte levels. The most serious forms of electrolyte imbalances are usually seem in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. Their symptoms can be very serious when not properly managed and include high blood calcium levels or other imbalances that develop when cancer cells die off.
Laxatives or diuretics also change potassium and sodium levels within the blood and urine. Certain diuretics are considered “potassium-sparing,” meaning they can cause potassium levels to stay very high while other electrolytes like sodium, calcium and magnesium can fall very low. This results in anxiety, fast heartbeats, digestive issues and trouble sleeping. It’s also possible to develop electrolyte imbalances due to hormonal interactions from antidiuretic hormone medications, aldosterone and thyroid hormones. Even high levels of physiological stress can impact hormones to the point that fluid and electrolyte levels become thrown out of balance.
If you’ve started a new medication or supplement and notice changes in your mood, energy, heartbeat and sleep, talk to your doctor about possibly changing your dose to minimize electrolyte imbalance risks.
5. Refuel After Exercise
Fluids and electrolytes (usually in the form of extra sodium) are commonly consumed by athletes during or after training. Replenishing electrolytes has been a well-known recommendation for years and is why sports drinks and enhanced waters are popular among people who are very active. It’s important to drink enough water before, during and after exercise to keep you hydrated, and if you’re training for a prolonged period of time, it’s also necessary to replenish your electrolyte stores since some electrolytes (especially sodium) are lost when you sweat.
You need to drink extra water to compensate for the fluid loss of being active, about 1.5 to 2.5 cups for shorter workouts, and about three extra cups for longer workouts that are more than one hour. Without enough water present in your body, dehydration and deficits can cause cardiovascular complications (changes to heartbeats), muscle cramping, fatigue, dizziness and confusion. Not only does this hurt your overall aerobic performance, but it can cause you to pass out or in rare circumstances even experience serious issues like a heart attack.
Both water and sodium need to be replaced after workouts to re-establish “normal” body water levels. You don’t need to go nuts guzzling down tons of water after a workout, but make sure you eat a balanced meal afterward and have some water throughout the rest of the day. If you notice yourself feeling dizzy or heavily cramping up, try drinking lots of fluids immediately and consuming electrolytes until you feel better.
6. Consider Supplementing
Due to high stress levels, genetic factors or existing medical conditions, some people can be chronically deficient in some electrolytes. Magnesium and potassium are two electrolytes that many people are low in. Taking magnesium supplements daily can help replenish stores and prevent magnesium deficiency that’s responsible for symptoms like anxiety, trouble sleeping or muscle cramps. Potassium and magnesium are usually present in mutlivitamins, just be sure you take a high-quality, food-based vitamin in order to properly absorb these electrolytes and not any supplements that are toxic and full of junk.
