LAHORE: Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar has urged India not to derail the peace process in the wake of last month’s terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

Talking to a private TV channel on Thursday, he said some elements in India and Pakistan did not want peace between the two neighbours.

“There are elements on both sides that do not want India-Pakistan relations to improve,” Babar said.

Ten gunmen attacked two luxury hotels, a rail station and a Jewish cultural centre in India’s financial capital Mumbai on November 26, killing more than 170 people including nine of the gunmen. One of the attackers was caught and is in Indian custody. India says the gunmen belonged to Pakistan, but Pakistan says India has not given evidence of the claim so far.

Farhatullah Babar said the Mumbai terrorist attacks had occurred when ties between the two countries were improving.
