(NaturalHealth365) Most people think of dandelions as a weed to be killed with toxic chemicals. But, truth be told, this ancient herb has been prized for its medicinal qualities and culinary uses throughout history. So, the big question is, why hasn’t conventional medicine embraced this powerful (natural) substance? (hint: power and control)
Dandelions have the power to heal many health conditions
Imagine a miracle herb that can help prevent, even reverse liver dis-ease. In addition, dandelion greens can act as a tonic and gentile diuretic; help dissolve kidney stones; improve gastro-intestinal health; assist in weight management; relieve constipation and diarrhea; lower blood pressure plus much more.
Arabian text recorded the “medicinal” uses of dandelions as early as the 16th century. This bitter herb has been used for centuries to treat liver disorders, anemia, and diabetes. It also acts as a digestive aid and to help stimulate the appetite.
There are several ways to enjoy this healthy herb. Dandelions can be used as a salad green; lightly-steamed as a side dish or put into green smoothies.
The health benefits of Dandelions revealed
The scientific name for this magical herb is, Taraxacum Officinale – which translates to “official remedy for disorders”. According to the USDA Bulletin, “Composition of Foods,” dandelions rank in the top four of all green vegetables in overall nutritional value and is considered the richest green vegetable source of beta-carotene and the third richest source of all vitamin A just after cod-liver oil and beef liver.
Dandelions are rich in vitamins and minerals – offering a wide variety of health benefits, including:
Its vitamin A content can help reduce your risk for mouth and lung cancer.
The potassium content (in adequate amounts) and balanced with magnesium will help keep blood pressure down and reduce your risk for strokes.
Rich in calcium – you will help yourself to build stronger bones and the B vitamins help to reduce stress in your life.
Of course, don’t forget, the fiber content which helps you prevent cancer, diabetes and heart disease.
How can food detoxify the liver?
Dandelions are rich in apigenin and luteolin – two flavonoid glycosides which are diuretic, anti-spasmodic, anti-oxidant and liver protectors. At the same time, they are also anti-bacteria and anti-hypoglycemic. Simply put, dandelion is a world class (multi-functioning) herb – which maximizes health by conveying effects that approach some of the most potent diuretics such as, Furosemide and Lasix.
In reality, what people (living in the matrix) call a “weed” – is really a treasure trove of nutrients, which you can rely on for optimal health. Share your love of greens by posting your comments below.
