What you need to know about the FDA's War on Homeopathy

What You Need to Know About the FDA’s War on Homeopathy

The FDA is a joke. There’s really no nicer way to say it. By now you’ve probably heard that instead of cracking down on the drugs fueling the opioid epidemic, they are attempting to regulate homeopathic remedies, which is kind of funny because they supposedly contain no active ingredients whatsoever and cause about zero deaths each year. (Except when we’re making stuff up to scare people into believing there’s a sudden need to regulate something there’s no need to regulate.)

Why are they doing this, you ask? And I quote, “In light In light of the growth of the industry…” We can stop there because we all know where this is going.

It’s all about money (3 billion dollars to be exact) and the goal of these regulations is to suppress homeopathic products, heavily regulate companies out of business, keep people from being able to choose their own “medicine,” and put homeopathic remedies in the hands of doctors who have no training in or understanding of homeopathy whatsoever. Why? Because the FDA’s job is to protect pharmaceutical companies, and homeopathy competes with pharmaceutical companies.
Think I’m making this up? Take a minute to examine the relationships between the FDA and Big Pharma. Here is just one example: The current commissioner of the FDA (who unveiled the plan to regulate homeopathy) has had relationships with an insane amount of pharmaceutical companies including Vertex, Cell Biotherapy, GlaskoSmithKline, Bristol-Myers Squibb, New Enterprise, TR Winston, MedAvante, and Glytec. He was also a director at Tolero Pharmaceuticals, Daiichi Sankyo Inc. and a member of GlaxoSmithKline’s PRODUCT INVESTMENT BOARD. Hello? Anyone?
Here’s a list of a few others you can look up, but I assure you it all reads the same. Person works for/consults with/gets kickbacks from drug company, then gets job at the FDA where they protect drug companies and products that compete with the companies they used to work for.
Another reason homeopathy needs to be regulated is because it is supposedly being used to treat various things like cancer, heart conditions, and opioid addiction. So I guess in some messed up warped-way-of-thinking … regulating homeopathy is going to help the opioid crisis being fueled by the pharmaceutical companies whose products and practices are protected by the FDA. [Insert #facepalm here.]
They must look like they’re doing something about the opioid epidemic, without actually doing anything about it … like addressing an over-population of deer by regulating coastal sea turtle populations.
The truth is, homeopathy has always been an alternative treatment. There are just some people who don’t believe the best way to treat an opioid addiction is with more drugs, that there has to be more to cancer treatment than attacking cancer with drugs that cause cancer, or that treating a heart condition with an unsafe drug that does zero to address the root cause of the heart condition in the first place isn’t always the best idea. Though to be honest, the vast majority of the time homeopathy is used for things like teething, colds, constipation, and the flu.
There’s another reason why homeopathy (which isn’t a drug) should be regulated like a drug: Because physicians spend years in school learning about homeopathy.
Wait … they don’t.

What I really meant to say is that it’s been more than two decades since the last time they looked into this little situation, so they’re just doing their due diligence:
In light of the growth of the industry and passage of more than 2 decades since the 1988 CPG’s issuance, FDA announced on March 27, 2015, that it was evaluating its regulatory framework for these products.
What I find ironic, is that the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program was implemented in 1986 (shielding pharmaceutical companies from liability for vaccine injuries) and we now know that vaccines harm, injure, and kill far more people than any homeopathic remedy ever could, yet the FDA sees no need to look into such things.

Take your career to the next stage.
Together, there's no telling
how far we can go.

Come back and apply

If I’m being 100% open and honest with you … I don’t even really use homeopathy. I’m trained in it, I know people who use it and love it, I’ve often recommended it, I used homeopathic teething tablets religiously, but it doesn’t work for everyone. (I prefer other natural supplements the FDA also feels the need to regulate.)
But there exists nothing (natural or otherwise) that works for every single person. But here’s the thing, the worst thing that could happen if you take a drug (even if used correctly) is that you could die. The worst thing that could happen if you take a homeopathic remedy (correctly) is that it simply won’t work. (That is, until you see a made up news story next week about the first person in the history of ever to die from a homeopathic remedy).
What I believe, is that people have the absolute right to have access to homeopathic remedies, that for some people they work, that they’re safer than the pharmaceutical alternative (though there is certainly a time and place when a drug may be needed), and that the FDA is being ridiculous while simultaneously wasting our tax dollars.
