The Latest Attack on Your Supplements

If Arizona Senator John McCain has his way, many of the supplements you rely on for good health will disappear. And the cost of the few you can still get will go through the roof.

Earlier this month, Sen. McCain introduced a bill falsely labeled the "Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010" (S. 3002). Sounds good, right? Nothing to worry about. McCain says:

"Legitimate dietary supplement companies should have nothing to fear from this legislation. The purpose of the bill is not to create a sweeping regulatory structure, but instead a targeted structure that provides for openness, transparency and safety."

Well, here's what McCain didn't say.

This bill would require every person involved with supplements - all the way down to mom-and-pop health food stores and multi-level-marketing distributors — to register with the FDA. Next, every "dietary supplement facility" must turn over a complete list of the products and ingredients they sell or handle.

Have Harvard scientists found the Fountain of Youth?

Harvard Study finds this amazing nutrient gives you
smooth arteries ... more energy ... a strong immune system ... and may even undo the effects of a bad diet.

Could this be the magic pill we've all dreamed about?

It gets worse. Should this bill become law, the state will determine if an ingredient can be sold. You see, under DSHEA passed in 1994, any ingredient sold before the bill passed could be sold legally forever. Well, no more.

Under this bill, the FDA will assume any ingredient "adulterated" unless "there is a history of use or other evidence of safety." Manufacturers and distributors must provide the FDA "with information, including any citation to published articles, which is the basis on which the manufacturer or distributor has concluded that a dietary supplement containing such dietary ingredient will reasonably be expected to be safe."

And guess who is the ultimate judge and jury? The FDA!

Just think, if you sell Amway products in your neighborhood, jack-booted thugs could break down your door for any suspected violation on your part. All it would take is failing to turn over stacks of paperwork, which you'll need to keep for God knows how many years.

In case you think that's impossible, just ask my good friend Jonathan Wright, MD. In 1991, federal and local agents beat down his clinic doors for shipping vitamin B across state lines. It became a legend — the Great Vitamin B Bust!

And it doesn't stop there ...

The bill would require every "facility" to report even "non-serious adverse events" from any supplement to the FDA.

So if a single person has any reaction to a supplement, the FDA can pull it off the market. The problem is anyone can be allergic to anything. I know plenty of people who have been allergic to a particular supplement. That doesn't mean the government needs to pull the supplement off the market. But it will if the Senate passes this bill.

Folks, I stay out of public politics except when it comes to health care. But I will tell you that anyone who could author a bill like this deserves to be removed from office. John McCain is not representing you. He is nothing more than an agent of Big Pharma. Pharma could NEVER survive in a free market. Its products are too expensive, too dangerous, and too toxic.

I will continue to fight for your right to health freedom. Please contact your senators to oppose Senator McCain's draconian S. 3002. Urge them not to co-sponsor or vote for this abomination.

And if you live in Arizona, let McCain know that this is the reason you will not vote to reelect him. McCain faces a serious primary challenge. So he needs every vote. Tell him to withdraw this bill or he won't get yours!
