Turmeric Extract Strikes To The Root Cause of Cancer Malignancy

A new turmeric study published in Cancer Letters is paving the way for a revolution in the way that we both understand and treat cancer. Titled, "Targeting cancer stem cells by curcumin and clinical applications," U.S. researchers evaluated the primary polyphenol in the Indian spice known as curcumin for its ability to target cancer stem cells (CSCs), which are believed to be at the root cause of tumor formation and malignancy.
Whereas conventional models of cancer assumed that the majority of the cancer cells within a tumor possess self-renewal capacity to differing degrees, the CSC model proposes that, "[T]he initiation, maintenance, and growth of a tumor is driven by a minor population of cancer cells termed cancer stem cells (CSCs)," and that "These CSCs undergo continuous self-renewal and differentiate to heterogeneous cancer cells, yielding new tumors recapitulating the parental tumors, while the majority of cancer cells lack self-renewal capacity."
In other words, the CSCs are at the apex of a hierarchy of cells within the tumor, and are the "mother" of the various daughter cells that make it up, most of which are intrinsically benign. Conventional treatment with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, based on a rodent model with a 2-year experimental window to evaluate treatment efficacy and safety, was incapable of comprehending the CSC-mediated cause of post-treatment tumor recurrence, which in humans can take decades after initial treatment to manifest. Although it was possible to debulk a tumor with surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, CSC populations were often missed or even enriched as a result. When the tumor mass regrew it often became more invasive and treatment-resistant, resulting in the rapid demise and death of the patient -- deaths which are often written off inaccurately or disingenuously as non-treatment related.
Given that conventional treatment can drive an intrinsically benign tumor (i.e., so-called indolent tumors) into greater invasiveness through increasing the number of intrinsically resilient cancer stem cells at the very same moment that it kills the less or non-harmful daughter cells, alternative treatment approaches are needed now more than ever.
The Cancer Stem Cell Killing Role of Turmeric (Curcumin)

Turmeric and curcumin extract have been extensively studied for their ability to kill various cancer cell lines. In fact, the literature is so abundant (see: 600 health benefits of turmeric) that it is both surprising and disheartening that so many patients who are in need of safe, effective and affordable treatments are not being given information about it.

The new study identifies a number of ways in which curcumin provides an ideal CSC-targeting therapy, including:
  • Regulation of the CSC self-renewal pathway:  curcumin appears to directly and indirectly influence at least three self-renewal pathways within cancer stem cells, namely, Wnt/b-catenin, sonic hedgehog 89 (SHH), and Notch. The authors list 12 difference cancer cell lines which curcumin appear to affect positively.
  • Modulation of microRNA: microRNAs are short non-coding RNA sequences that regulate approximately 33% of the protein-coding genes in the human genome. They bind to target messenger RNAs (mRNAs) leading to their degradation or inactivation. Curcumin has been found to alter the expression of microRNAs in cancer stem cells in a way that would suggest a strong suppression of tumor formation.
  • Direct anti-cancer activity: Curcumin exhibits the ability to selectively kill cancer cells versus healthy cells and synergizes with conventional chemotherapy agents making them more effective (in some cases less harmful).
The researchers evaluated the safety and tolerability of all the available human research on curcumin in human cancer studies and found no cause for concern. They also noted "Curcumin, as a natural remedy for thousands of years, has been shown to be well tolerated and causes no significant toxicity in a number of clinical trials."
The conclusion of the study:
"Curcumin, as well as its modified forms (analogues or nanoparticle-encapsulated formulations), has shown great potential to inhibit CSCs in several types of cancer both in cell cultures and in mouse models, including glioma, breast, colorectal, pancreatic, brain, and esophageal cancers. Some analogues (e.g., CDF) and formulations (e.g., nanotechnology-based formulation) have exhibited improved efficacy against CSC-like cells and greater growth-inhibitory capacity in tumors. It is promising to evaluate curcumin and its modified forms in other types of CSCs."

CO2 Medicine & Bath Bombing Your Way to Health diabetic foot disease.

CO2 Medicine & Bath Bombing Your Way to Health

Ladies, you are looking at the power of carbon dioxide medicine. This is the same woman before, after one year and after two years of daily application of a carbon dioxide gel that is applied directly to the face. What this will do to the skin this will do to one’s internal tissues when CO2 levels are increased and wait to you see what it does to a person’s toes if they have diabetic foot disease.
Carbon dioxide gas (CO2) is generated and delivered to skin tissue and it results in intensive oxygen release from blood vessel. It activates erythrocytes to supply more oxygen to dermal cells and therefore, activates cell metabolism. Natural biological functions of the skin can be maximized and all kinds of skin problems can be settled at cell level.
Key Functions of CO2 Gel Mask:
Moisturizing - Brightening – Revitalizing -Firming - Skin Radiance - Soothing
There are many beauty products that make a lot of promises but this one, I predicted in my book Sodium Bicarbonate, ahead of time like a theoretical physicist. This effect is already known in the beauty industry and it has important applications in medicine. Interestingly, the beauty industry employs lasers set to the frequency of carbon dioxide to bring renewed beauty to the skin.
My wife did not believe that the above woman transformed herself or that it was the same woman. Another said to me that the before picture looked like the mother of the stunning young woman to the right. No doubt, professional makeup and special lighting are on display but the fact remains that CO2 is serious medicine. Not only is it used in emergency rooms but also CO2 is an essential food, not only for plants but also for us. We simply do not work right when CO2 and bicarbonate levels are low in the blood.
Look at what this same medical power applied to the feet. Diabetics especially want to know about carbon dioxide medicine. The following show treatment effects of CO2 medicine for diabetic foot. Carbon dioxide footbath therapy was developed as a means for healing diabetic foot and other ischemic ulcers. (See my books Transdermal Magnesium Therapy and New Paradigms in Diabetic Care for more information about magnesium treatments for diabetes.)

This is before then one month and three months after treatment. The only treatment that comes close to helping diabetic foot like this is magnesium therapy, which combines beautifully in baths with sodium bicarbonate and CO2 medicine therapies.
Among the most severe complications associated with diabetes mellitus are the deep tissue lesions of the foot known collectively as "diabetic foot." Until recently, the lack of an effective therapy for diabetic foot has led many patients with such complications down an inexorable and tragic path toward amputation of the foot.
In my upcoming book Anti-Inflammatory Oxygen Therapy we see that oxygen delivered at higher concentrations gives the same effect. The secret to this is that oxygen and carbon dioxide are twin sisters or two sides of an interesting coin. Less oxygen is delivered in the face of carbon dioxide deficiencies while healthy CO2 levels insures plenty of oxygen gets delivered.

My book Sodium Bicarbonate - Rich Man’s Poor Man’s Cancer Treatment tells one side of this amazing medical mystery.

Bath Bombs
In addition to this gel there are what are called Bath Bombs that can be added to a person’s bath that can be crucial in helping a person recover from diseases including cancer. The same Japanese company that makes the gel for women makes a tablet that you put in the bath and one soaks in the CO2 right from the bath water. It is like loading up the tub with sodium bicarbonate but in this case it is sodium bicarbonate but mixed with citric acid, which breaks down the sodium bicarbonate into CO2 micro bubbles, which is much more absorbable then sodium bicarbonate. CO2 permeability through cell membrane is 25 times more than O2.
The good news is that you can make Bath Bombs yourself or buy them with a variety of good smells for delicious medicinal baths. Treatment using natural carbon dioxide springs was common in Germany long before treatment with artificial CO2-enriched water began in Japan. But if you go to any of the many Bath Bomb sites you will not find a word about the medical effects.
C02 water bathing helps reduce pulse and high
blood pressure score, improves venous blood returning
to heart, and increase of peripheral blood flow.
Why does it Work?
Most of the CO2 in the body is in the form of bicarbonate (HCO3-). Therefore, the CO2 blood test is really a measure of your blood bicarbonate level. The normal range is 23-29 mEq/L (milliequivalent per liter).
If the level of carbon dioxide in the blood is lower
than normal, then this leads to difficulties
in releasing oxygen from haemoglobin.
Some background medical information is quite revealing about the power Bath Bombs and sodium bicarbonate baths (as well as oral administration), as well as rebreathing retraining, all of which help restore blood CO2/bicarbonate levels to normal.
Some of the diseases that are related to low CO2 levels are:
The official story is that Carbon Dioxide is a colorless and odorless gas with a slightly acidic taste.  It is a “waste product” of the metabolic process in humans and is also consumed by plants during photosynthesis. Carbon Dioxide occurs naturally in the atmosphere and makes up approximately 0.03% of the atmosphere.
Through the years I have laughed at the detractors of using sodium bicarbonate to treat cancer knowing that they had not the slightest idea of what they are talking about. Medical Grade Carbon Dioxide USP is utilized in critical care areas of the hospital!  The medical uses of carbon dioxide include the following but be sure to add cancer and diabetes to the list:
  1. Inflation gas for minimal invasive surgery (laparoscopy, endoscopy, arthroscopy) to enlarge and stabilize body cavities for better visibility of the surgical field
  2. To increase the depth of respiration and help overcome breath holding and bronchial spasms during various procedures
  3. To stimulate respiration for various reasons (i.e. chronic respiratory obstruction removal, hyperventilation, etc.)
  4. To increase cerebral blood flow during some surgeries
  5. For clinical and physiological investigations
Carbon dioxide gas protects against tissue damage in the operative field in open-heart surgery. Carbon dioxide insufflation into the abdominal cavity results in the reduction of oxidative stress. Without CO2 we would all die as well as everything else on earth. So why on earth would anyone want to tax a good thing?
Carbon Dioxide Good or Evil

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a gaseous waste product from metabolism. That is what everyone thinks. Waste means toxic but everything is toxic, including water, in the allopathic paradigm where the dose makes the poison in everything. CO2 is a waste product that we need. It is essential for life. It comes from living life and it goes back into creating life.
Al Gore is a phenomenon who runs around blubbering about carbon dioxide and why it is such a big problem. He is exactly wrong. NASA knows how waste can be turned to food and obviously, God knows about this too.
Carbon dioxide gas makes plants grow. It is a life gas not a death gas. You can treat cancer with it because increased systemic concentrations of pH buffers leads to reduced intratumoral and peritumoral acidosis and, as a result, inhibit malignant growth of cancer.
Meanwhile Gore is dancing on a 24-hour online global broadcast. “We are putting 90 million tons of carbon pollution in the earth’s atmosphere every day as if the atmosphere were an open sewer. The accumulated amount of manmade CO2 and global warming pollution now traps as much heat every day as would be released by 400,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs going off every day.”
A UN panel of climate scientists recently found with 95% certainty that humans are responsible for the earth’s warming temperatures, up from 90% certainty six years ago. They concluded that only a rapid reduction in greenhouse gas emissions could possibly reverse the global warming trend.
Notice these people are in doubt. Forget what the actual numbers are because they vary from computer to computer depending on what kind of assumptions scientists are making. NASA says that carbon dioxide is actually having a cooling effect in the upper atmosphere and on earth Gore is saying we are frying down on the surface with all these carbon based nuclear explosions. That must have been a typo or a joke but carbon dioxide medicine is where we establish CO2 truth. I seriously do not think any of us would be surviving more than a few days with “400,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs going off every day.”

Back to Medicine
The blood carries carbon dioxide to your lungs, where it is exhaled. More than 90% of carbon dioxide in your blood exists in the form of bicarbonate (HCO3). The rest of the carbon dioxide is either dissolved carbon dioxide gas (CO2) or carbonic acid (H2CO3). Your kidneys and lungs balance the levels of carbon dioxide, bicarbonate, and carbonic acid in the blood.
Taking sodium bicarbonate orally or bathing in a tub saturated with it results in a shift of the body’s pH to less acidic and more alkaline. That is because baking soda is an electron donor. As the pH rises, so does cellular voltage and cellular oxygen levels.
These bath bombs or tablets take sodium bicarbonate medicine to another level by breaking down the sodium bicarbonate, with citric acid, to make CO2 micro-bubbles. CO2, which is only an alternative form of bicarbonate, is much more absorbable. Instead of loading up the bath with a kilo or two of bicarbonate, these tablets or Bath Bombs do the trick with just ounces of sodium bicarbonate.
We increase cell voltage, raise energy and performance levels of cellular activity when we supplement with sodium bicarbonate, which has long been known as an excellent medicine for the kidneys, and dialysis units use bicarbonate regularly but they, like everyone else, don’t want to brag about it.

Sodium bicarbonate+Citric acid+Water=Radical chemical reaction produces CO2 with lots of –HCO3 and +HCO3 with PH of 7.45
For the women there is the CO2 masks.

The best way to produce carbon dioxide is from physical activity but most people with chronic illness and cancer unfortunately do not exercise. Understanding how important bicarbonate and CO2 physiology can be to the chronically ill person involves understanding the basic physiology of carbon dioxide. Yes, women can make themselves more beautiful with CO2 masks but we can make patients more beautiful and a lot more comfortable when we resolve their bedsores, gangrene, eczema and fatigue with CO2.
Physical activity and sports is good for us because it raises CO2 concentrations though there are limits to everything including a good thing like CO2. Therefore, we do have, as we do for magnesium and everything else, a way of blowing off excess.

How Probiotics May Aid Your Weight Management

January 17, 2014 | 293,987 views

By Dr. Mercola
Your gastrointestinal tract houses some 100 trillion bacteria—about two to three pounds worth. In all, the bacteria outnumber your body's cells by about 10 to 1.
Your intestinal bacteria are part of your immune system, and researchers are discovering that microbes of all kinds play instrumental roles in countless areas of your health. For example, beneficial bacteria, also known as probiotics, have been shown to:
Beneficial bacteria also control the growth of disease-causing bacteria by competing for nutrition and attachment sites in your colon. This is of immense importance, as pathogenic bacteria and other less beneficial microbes can wreak havoc with your health if they gain the upper hand. It can also affect your weight, as you'll see below.
For all of these reasons, and more, I always recommend a diet rich in whole, unprocessed foods along with cultured or fermented foods. A high-quality probiotic supplement can also be a helpful ally to restore healthful balance to your microbiotia—especially when taking antibiotics.
The Diet-Bacteria-Weight Connection
Bacterial imbalance in your gut can be made worse by processed foods and foods that have been pasteurized or sterilized. Other factors affecting your gut flora include where you live, your age, your stress level, and any health issues you may have. Like processed foods, sugar also promotes the growth of disease-causing yeasts and fungi.
Symptoms of a yeast (candida) overgrowth include fatigue, depression, irritability, headaches, problems concentrating, muscle weakness, recurrent vaginal and urinary tract infections, athlete's foot, jock itch, persistent heartburn, indigestion, constipation, swollen joints, nasal congestion, and sore throat.1
In case you don't have reason enough yet to re-evaluate your sugar and fructose intake, here's another twist in the sugar-obesity connection: researchers have discovered a difference in gut bacteria between the overweight and those of normal weight.2
In the obese, a bacterial strain known as firmicutes is found in much greater abundance than in leaner individuals. In those of normal weight, the bacteroidetes strain is in greater supply.
The firmicutes bacteria appear to be much better than the bacteroidetes strain at turning calories from complex sugars into fat. As those who are overweight begin to slim down, the bacterial balance shifts from predominantly firmicutes to predominantly bacteroidetes. Research published last year discovered that as much as 20 percent of the substantial weight loss achieved from gastric bypass, a popular weight loss surgery, is actually due to shifts in the balance of bacteria in your digestive tract.3
Bacteria Can Affect Your Food Cravings, and Weight Loss Success
According to the most recent study, a strain of friendly bacteria called Lactobacillus rhamnosus also appears to be quite helpful for weight loss in women.4 As reported in the featured article:
"The controlled clinical trial was set up so that the first 12 weeks women were guided to eat less food and some were additionally given the Lactobacillus rhamnosus. After 12 weeks the amount of weight loss was greater in the group receiving the friendly flora supplement.
Over the next 12 weeks the dietary restrictions were lifted, and the friendly flora was continued. Those women not taking Lactobacillus rhamnosus now gained weight, whereas the friendly flora group continued to lose weight. The weight loss benefit was linked to measurements of the bacterial profile of the digestive tract. This study is the latest to show that the balance of power in the digestive tract is a metabolic variable of high importance and nothing to ignore as part of a long-term successful weight loss plan."
As it relates to weight management, one hypothesis states that your gut bacteria may in fact be in control of your appetite. Recent research5 suggests there's a positive-feedback loop between the foods you crave and the composition of the microbiota in your gut that depend on those nutrients for their survival. Microbes that thrive on sugar, for example, can signal your brain to eat more sweets. Other studies6,7 have shown that certain bacteria found in your gut can produce insulin resistance and weight gain by triggering chronic low-grade inflammation in your body. Three such culprits include:
  • Endotoxin-producing Enterobacter8
  • Staphylococcus aureus9 (an antibiotic-resistant strain of bacteria)
  • The human adenovirus-36 (a cause of respiratory infections and pinkeye)
Yet another recent study revealed that a breath test of the gases given off by your gut bacteria might actually be able to predict your likelihood of becoming obese. The study found that people with high levels of hydrogen and methane in their breath are more likely to have a higher body-mass index (BMI) and proportion of body fat.10 This, the researchers believe, may be because the related gut bacteria influence your body's ability to extract calories from food, leading to weight gain.
Diets, Not Borders, Dictate Gut Bacteria
It's important to understand that while your gut microbes may have a tremendous say in you bodily processes, YOU are ultimately in control of your intestinal microflora—through the foods you eat. Science News11 recently ran an article about how local diets dictate the bacterial balance found in residents. For example, despite living on opposite ends of the Earth, people in Malawi and the Guahibo of Venezuela have similar microbial makeup, courtesy of the similarities between their native diets.
"Americans, on the other hand, have a distinctive microbiome with about 25 percent less diversity than indigenous Venezuelans," the article states.
One of the primary differences between the diets is meat consumption. Malawian and Guahibo diets are high in corn and cassava, with an occasional piece of meat. Americans, on the other hand, are far more carnivorous, and also eat far more bread, lettuce and tomatoes, potatoes, pasta, milk and dairy products. The microbial makeup of the three groups reveals these dietary differences. Needless to say, altering your diet has a direct impact on the microbial community residing in your gut—for better or worse. According to Science News:12
"A more recent study found that major diet shifts can change the mix of gut microbes noticeably in just a day. Omnivores switching to a diet of all animal products saw the biggest change, as some bacteria boomed and others declined. Microbes settled back to their previous profiles a day or two after subjects returned to their usual diets..." [Emphasis mine]
A More Complete Understanding of the Gut Could Change Modern Medicine...
There are three major collaborative efforts underway that help deepen our understanding of the human microbiome:
  • The International Human Microbiome Consortium13
  • The US National Institute of Health's Human Microbiome Project14
  • The American Gut Project
So far, the NIH's Human Microbiome Project alone has produced 190 scientific papers, along with a repository of resources that scientists can access to explore the relationships between human gut bacteria and disease. The American Gut Project decided to take it a step further by allowing the American public to participate.15 All the gathered information from this project will eventually be made public. It's an extremely ambitious project seeking to identify the parameters for the ideal gut flora, and how your diet affects it.
What's particularly exciting about the American Gut Project is the fact that it will allow us to really evaluate and compare the effects of a very diverse conglomeration of lifestyles. Scientific studies almost always focus on carefully chosen groups of people who are studied for a specific purpose, typically to confirm or debunk a hypothesis. This project, on the other hand, will crack the lid open on the effects on gut flora of a myriad of lifestyle choices, by people of all ethnicities and ages.
If we can better understand how diet and lifestyle—whether by choice or necessity—affect your microbial makeup, doctors may eventually be able to precisely address health problems and disease through dietary prescriptions known to shift the microbial population in one direction or another.
Diet and Lifestyle Dos and Don'ts
Granted, I don't see any point in waiting for such confirmations. The fundamentals are already quite well understood, and include a rather concise list of dos and don'ts. When it comes to diet, you want to eat mostly whole, fresh, unadulterated foods, taking pains to avoid sugars and processed/pasteurized and genetically engineered foods of all kinds. Add to that a healthy amount of traditionally fermented foods each day and you're off to a good start.
A strong case can be made for eating organic to protect your gut flora as agricultural chemicals take a heavy toll on beneficial microbes—both in the soil in which the food is grown, and in your body. Glyphosate (Roundup), used in particularly hefty amounts on genetically engineered crops, appears to be among the worst of the most widely used chemicals in food production. As for general lifestyle advice, you'll want to avoid well-known culprits that kill beneficial bacteria, such as:
  • Antibiotics (also note that most store-bought beef typically comes from cattle raised with antibiotics. To avoid getting a low dose of antibiotics in every piece of meat you eat, make sure your meat is grass-fed and finished)
  • Chlorinated water
  • Antibacterial soap
  • Pollution
Foods 'for Life'
In contrast to the pesticide effect of processed foods and sugar on the state of your health, fermented foods act as natural fertilizers, if you will—providing nutrients and promoting growth of healthy bacteria in your digestive tract. For ages, humans have used fermented foods to improve intestinal health. As an added boon, fermented foods are also some of the best chelators and detox agents available, meaning they can help rid your body of a wide variety of toxins, including heavy metals and pesticides.  Examples of healthy fermented foods include:
  • Sauerkraut, pickles, and other fermented vegetables
  • Fermented dairy products, such as yoghurt and kefir made from raw (unpasteurized) dairy
  • Miso
  • Tempeh
  • Olives
To Be 'Alive,' the Food Must Be Unprocessed and Not Pasteurized...
It is important to note that traditionally fermented foods are not the equivalent of the same foods, commercially processed and pasteurized.16 Fortunately, preparing your own fermented foods at home is quite easy, and very cost effective. For instructions, please see my previous interview with Caroline Barringer, a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP), and an expert in the preparation of the gut-nourishing foods prescribed in Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride's Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAPS) Nutritional Program.
Caroline recommends eating about a quarter to half a cup (2 to 4 oz) of fermented vegetables or other cultured food, such as raw yoghurt, with one to three meals per day. Bear in mind that since cultured foods are efficient detoxifiers, you may experience detox symptoms if you introduce too many at once. So start with very small servings—as little as a teaspoon of fermented vegetables, for example, or even just a spoon or two of the juice—and slowly work your way up to the quarter to half cup serving size. This way your intestinal microbiota has the chance to adjust.
For Optimal Health, Pay Attention to Your Gut
Two things are clear:
  • Sufficient amounts of friendly bacteria are fundamental to your good health. It's impossible to be optimally healthy if your gut's bacterial balance is out of whack.
  • Your lifestyle –your diet, medications, the antibacterial cleansers you use, and other factors outside your control – are working together to compromise the number of lifesaving friendly bacteria in your digestive system.

Maintaining a good balance of gut bacteria through diet is one of the most important things you can do to increase your chances of remaining healthy and vital for a lifetime. Remember, a gut-healthy diet is one that is rich in whole, unprocessed, unsweetened foods, along with traditionally fermented or cultured foods. And, although I'm not a major proponent of taking many supplements (as I believe the majority of your nutrients need to come from food), probiotics is an exception if you don't eat fermented foods on a regular basis.

It's later than men think

The illusion was good while it lasted. I speak of the male biological clock.
Yet another study, reported at PsychCentral.com , finds that children of older fathers are more likely to suffer “from mental health issues, including schizophrenia, mood disorders, neurotic disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders and other developmental and childhood disorders such as autism and mental retardation.”
And this news is a real bummer for middle-aged fellows.
Oh, how glorious things used to be before these male biological constraints were known. We fellows were free to believe we could dilly-dally through our 30s and 40s, acquire some dough, then marry an attractive young woman who would bless us with a couple of healthy young children, who could push us around in our wheelchairs in our rapidly approaching old age.
We cheered on any old fellow who procreated later in life.
Actor Tony Randall had his first kid with a young woman when he was 78. Novelist Saul Bellow sired his fourth child at the age of 84. Author George Plimpton had twins when he was 68.
Actor Anthony Quinn fathered two children with his secretary, who later became his wife — the first when he was 78, the second when he was 81.
And let us not forget gorgeous actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, who has had two kids with aging actor Michael Douglas — or is that Kirk Douglas? They both look so old, I get confused.
Then the studies started coming out.
Scientists said men start suffering low sperm count as soon as the age of 35. They said our “little guys” can't swim as fast as they could when we were young and have higher concentrations of broken DNA strands, which cause maladies in our offspring.
Scientists suggested that if we are still crazy enough to procreate after 35, we better give up fun. We must forsake smoking and drinking and everything else that could damage our reproductive capacity.
They said we have to give up delicious fatty foods, too, and consume as many oysters, fish and walnuts as we can take.
I suppose we had it coming.
For years, you see, lots of studies documented the female biological clock. Infertility research shows that a woman's eggs deteriorate with age. The longer women wait to have kids, the more likely their children will have issues of some kind — if they are even able to get pregnant.
Hence, many articles and books have suggested that career women can't have it all — that if they want families, they should put their careers on hold and have children while they're young and at their biological best.
The female biological clock actually benefitted some of us men. Women who dreamed of having a family, aware of their time limitations, were much more likely to consort with boring men of high moral character. Even a bald, chubby fellow could land a lovely wife, so long as he was a CPA.
And before the male biological clock was documented, there was some opportunity for a fellow to dedicate years to developing his talents and growing his wealth. In his late 40s or early 50s, at the top of his career, he still might find a lovely woman who liked the idea of having a family with a financially stable older fellow.
But those days are gone — and, in fact, were never really here.
We humans like to think we can impose our will on reality — in this case, biological reality — but that is just not possible. The regrettable truth is that younger people are best suited to procreation and, if you want children, waiting too long isn't a good idea.
So pick up the pace, fellows. Your clock is ticking.

13 Vegetables That Magically Regrow Themselves

If you’re some kind of plant wizard, you can do this at home and maybe never buy groceries again.

BuzzFeed Staff

Growing vegetables from seeds is cool, but growing them from kitchen scraps is totally badass. Does it require some time? Yes. Is going to the grocery store easier? Definitely. But if you’re crazy enough to attempt these there are a lot of benefits. Upcycling your basil stems and onion butts (heeheehee butts) will save you money and you can do it indoors. Just make sure you use fresh scraps (not stuff that’s been composting for a week) and remember to pay attention to your baby future plant, making sure it has the water and light it needs.

1. You can grow scallions from their discarded roots.

Growing scallions from their roots is arguably the easiest vegetable to regrow. Change the water every day and you will see results in a week. Find directions here.
2. You can grow garlic sprouts (which are edible!) from a garlic clove.

Or you could just use the garlic clove. Find directions to grow garlic sprouts here.
3. You can grow romaine lettuce from the bottom of a head of lettuce.

You don’t need to put romaine lettuce in soil, but if you do, the leaves will grow to twice the size. This also works for cabbage. Find directions here.
4. You can grow carrot greens from discarded carrot tops.

This looks like more of a fun experiment than something you’d actually want to eat. Carrot greens can be a little bitter, but you can try chopping them up with some garlic, vinegar, and honey to sweeten them. Find directions on how to grow them here.
5. You can grow new basil from basil cuttings.

An endless supply of basil?! Make sure to change the water often so the plant doesn’t get slimy. Directions here.

6. Lemongrass can grow from its discarded roots.

The bottom of a lemongrass stalk is too tough to use in cooking, so this is a nice way to avoid throwing out half the plant. After about three weeks of leaving the lemongrass stalks in water you should begin to see roots. Then you’ll need to plant the lemongrass in soil in a sunny location. Find directions here.
7. Celery can grow from a leftover celery bottom.

How crazy does this look?! After three days in water you should replant the celery bottom in soil. Find directions here.
8. Onions can grow from the root end of an onion.

It seems strange that you could just chop off an onion bottom and plant it in soil and something magical happens. Find directions here.
9. Bok choy can grow from bok choy scraps.

Very similar to growing celery. Find directions here.

10. An avocado pit will grow into an avocado tree.

Growing an avocado plant requires a lot of attention, and will take anywhere between five to thirteen years to produce avocados (if it ever does) . If you’re feeling ambitious and have a lot of free time, why not? Find directions here.
11. A sweet potato will sprout vines that may eventually grow new sweet potatoes.

This will take some real estate. Find directions here.
12. Ginger roots can sprout and grow more ginger.

It may take a few months for shoots to sprout and up to a year for the plant to grow harvest-worthy roots, but at least this project is low-maintenance. Find directions here.
13. A pineapple can grow a pineapple from its crown.

Yes, you can grow a pineapple indoors, but it will take up to three years. Find directions here.

New technology lets you stop cancer cells before they grow into a tumor

New technology lets you stop cancer
cells before they grow into a tumor

Many years ago, I told you that cancer is loaded with iron. That was the basis for an amazing herbal compound, artemisinin, to kill tumor cells. When artemisinin comes into contact with the iron-containing cell, it unleashes a huge burst of free radicals that virtually blows up the cell. It's quite remarkable. Well, this same Achilles heel also may allow us to detect cancers far earlier.
A new technology samples only 7.5 cc of blood. The process uses technology to magnetically detect and stain individual cancer cells circulating in your blood. This gives a real time test as to the effectiveness of each therapy. From my perspective, we also could use it to one day detect cancer much earlier than we can today.
We've known for years that single tumor cells circulate in your blood looking for a place to imbed and grow. We all have these cells. I've always said the best way to beat cancer is to prevent it from imbedding and growing. Imagine being able to detect a single wandering cancerous cell. You could then take steps to prevent the cell from ever growing beyond one cell. And it wouldn't require chemotherapy or radiation to do so.

Doctors are calling this technology Cellsearch Circulating Tumor Cell Test. It is currently available in New York at the Eileen Barrett Cancer Center. And the list of clinics offering it is growing. Your doctor can learn more about it and order the tests by visiting https://www.cellsearchctc.com.
Technology has its wonderful side as well as its darker side. This is a very bright breakthrough for those wondering if they have had enough treatment.
If you take the test and find out that you do have threatening tumor cells, I strongly recommend you take steps to fight it. Again, this doesn't include chemo or radiation. Instead, artemisinin is perfect for this. It will take care of the cancer cells quickly and effortlessly. You can find artemisinin online. I prefer the products offered at www.nutricology.com.
Yours for better health and medical freedom,

The Retail Death Rattle

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 01/20/2014 10:08 -0500

Submitted by Jim Quinn of The Burning Platform blog,

“I was part of that strange race of people aptly described as spending their lives doing things they detest, to make money they don’t want, to buy things they don’t need, to impress people they don’t like.” - Emile Gauvreau

If ever a chart provided unequivocal proof the economic recovery storyline is a fraud, the one below is the smoking gun. November and December retail sales account for 20% to 40% of annual retail sales for most retailers. The number of visits to retail stores has plummeted by 50% since 2010. Please note this was during a supposed economic recovery. Also note consumer spending accounts for 70% of GDP. Also note credit card debt outstanding is 7% lower than its level in 2010 and 16% below its peak in 2008. Retailers like J.C. Penney, Best Buy, Sears, Radio Shack and Barnes & Noble continue to report appalling sales and profit results, along with listings of store closings. Even the heavyweights like Wal-Mart and Target continue to report negative comp store sales. How can the government and mainstream media be reporting an economic recovery when the industry that accounts for 70% of GDP is in free fall? The answer is that 99% of America has not had an economic recovery. Only Bernanke’s 1% owner class have benefited from his QE/ZIRP induced stock market levitation.

The entire economic recovery storyline is a sham built upon easy money funneled by the Fed to the Too Big To Trust Wall Street banks so they can use their HFT supercomputers to drive the stock market higher, buy up the millions of homes they foreclosed upon to artificially drive up home prices, and generate profits through rigging commodity, currency, and bond markets, while reducing loan loss reserves because they are free to value their toxic assets at anything they please – compliments of the spineless nerds at the FASB. GDP has been artificially propped up by the Federal government through the magic of EBT cards, SSDI for the depressed and downtrodden, never ending extensions of unemployment benefits, billions in student loans to University of Phoenix prodigies, and subprime auto loans to deadbeats from the Government Motors financing arm – Ally Financial (85% owned by you the taxpayer). The country is being kept afloat on an ocean of debt and delusional belief in the power of central bankers to steer this ship through a sea of icebergs just below the surface.
The absolute collapse in retail visitor counts is the warning siren that this country is about to collide with the reality Americans have run out of time, money, jobs, and illusions. The most amazingly delusional aspect to the chart above is retailers continued to add 44 million square feet in 2013 to the almost 15 billion existing square feet of retail space in the U.S. That is approximately 47 square feet of retail space for every person in America. Retail CEOs are not the brightest bulbs in the sale bin, as exhibited by the CEO of Target and his gross malfeasance in protecting his customers’ personal financial information. Of course, the 44 million square feet added in 2013 is down 85% from the annual increases from 2000 through 2008. The exponential growth model, built upon a never ending flow of consumer credit and an endless supply of cheap fuel, has reached its limit of growth. The titans of Wall Street and their puppets in Washington D.C. have wrung every drop of faux wealth from the dying middle class. There are nothing left but withering carcasses and bleached bones.
The impact of this retail death spiral will be vast and far reaching. A few factoids will help you understand the coming calamity:
  • There are approximately 109,500 shopping centers in the United States ranging in size from the small convenience centers to the large super-regional malls.
  • There are in excess of 1 million retail establishments in the United States occupying 15 billion square feet of space and generating over $4.4 trillion of annual sales. This includes 8,700 department stores, 160,000 clothing & accessory stores, and 8,600 game stores.
  • U.S. shopping-center retail sales total more than $2.26 trillion, accounting for over half of all retail sales.
  • The U.S. shopping-center industry directly employed over 12 million people in 2010 and indirectly generated another 5.6 million jobs in support industries. Collectively, the industry accounted for 12.7% of total U.S. employment.
  • Total retail employment in 2012 totaled 14.9 million, lower than the 15.1 million employed in 2002.
  • For every 100 individuals directly employed at a U.S. regional shopping center, an additional 20 to 30 jobs are supported in the community due to multiplier effects.
The collapse in foot traffic to the 109,500 shopping centers that crisscross our suburban sprawl paradise of plenty is irreversible. No amount of marketing propaganda, 50% off sales, or hot new iGadgets is going to spur a dramatic turnaround. Quarter after quarter there will be more announcements of store closings. Macys just announced the closing of 5 stores and firing of 2,500 retail workers. JC Penney just announced the closing of 33 stores and firing of 2,000 retail workers. Announcements are imminent from Sears, Radio Shack and a slew of other retailers who are beginning to see the writing on the wall. The vacancy rate will be rising in strip malls, power malls and regional malls, with the largest growing sector being ghost malls. Before long it will appear that SPACE AVAILABLE is the fastest growing retailer in America.

The reason this death spiral cannot be reversed is simply a matter of arithmetic and demographics. While arrogant hubristic retail CEOs of public big box mega-retailers added 2.7 billion retail square feet to our already over saturated market, real median household income flat lined. The advancement in retail spending was attributable solely to the $1.1 trillion increase (68%) in consumer debt and the trillion dollars of home equity extracted from castles in the sky, that later crashed down to earth. Once the Wall Street created fraud collapsed and the waves of delusion subsided, retailers have been revealed to be swimming naked. Their relentless expansion, based on exponential growth, cannibalized itself, new store construction ground to a halt, sales and profits have declined, and the inevitable closing of thousands of stores has begun. With real median household income 8% lower than it was in 2008, the collapse in retail traffic is a rational reaction by the impoverished 99%. Americans are using their credit cards to pay their real estate taxes, income taxes, and monthly utilities, since their income is lower, and their living expenses rise relentlessly, thanks to Bernanke and his Fed created inflation.

The media mouthpieces for the establishment gloss over the fact average gasoline prices in 2013 were the second highest in history. The highest average price was in 2012 and the 3rd highest average price was in 2011. These prices are 150% higher than prices in the early 2000′s. This might not matter to the likes of Jamie Dimon and Jon Corzine, but for a middle class family with two parents working and making 7.5% less than they made in 2000, it has a dramatic impact on discretionary income. The fact oil prices have risen from $25 per barrel in 2003 to $100 per barrel today has not only impacted gas prices, but utility costs, food costs, and the price of any product that needs to be transported to your local Wally World. The outrageous rise in tuition prices has been aided and abetted by the Federal government and their doling out of loans so diploma mills like the University of Phoenix can bilk clueless dupes into thinking they are on their way to an exciting new career, while leaving them jobless in their parents’ basement with a loan payment for life.

The laughable jobs recovery touted by Obama, his sycophantic minions, paid off economist shills, and the discredited corporate legacy media can be viewed appropriately in the following two charts, that reveal the false storyline being peddled to the techno-narcissistic iGadget distracted masses. There are 247 million working age Americans between the ages of 18 and 64. Only 145 million of these people are employed. Of these employed, 19 million are working part-time and 9 million are self- employed. Another 20 million are employed by the government, producing nothing and being sustained by the few remaining producers with their tax dollars. The labor participation rate is the lowest it has been since women entered the workforce in large numbers during the 1980′s. We are back to levels seen during the booming Carter years. Those peddling the drivel about retiring Baby Boomers causing the decline in the labor participation rate are either math challenged or willfully ignorant because they are being paid to be so. Once you turn 65 you are no longer counted in the work force. The percentage of those over 55 in the workforce has risen dramatically to an all-time high, as the Me Generation never saved for retirement or saw their retirement savings obliterated in the Wall Street created 2008 financial implosion.

To understand the absolute idiocy of retail CEOs across the land one must parse the employment data back to 2000. In the year 2000 the working age population of the U.S. was 213 million and 136.9 million of them were working, a record level of 64.4% of the population. There were 70 million working age Americans not in the labor force. Fourteen years later the number of working age Americans is 247 million and only 144.6 million are working. The working age population has risen by 16% and the number of employed has risen by only 5.6%. That’s quite a success story. Of course, even though median household income is 7.5% lower than it was in 2000, the government expects you to believe that 22 million Americans voluntarily left the labor force because they no longer needed a job. While the number of employed grew by 5.6% over fourteen years, the number of people who left the workforce grew by 31.1%. Over this same time frame the mega-retailers that dominate the landscape added almost 3 billion square feet of selling space, a 25% increase. A critical thinking individual might wonder how this could possibly end well for the retail genius CEOs in glistening corporate office towers from coast to coast.

This entire materialistic orgy of consumerism has been sustained solely with debt peddled by the Wall Street banking syndicate. The average American consumer met their Waterloo in 2008. Bernanke’s mission was to save bankers, billionaires and politicians. It was not to save the working middle class. You’ve been sacrificed at the altar of the .1%. The 0% interest rates were for Jamie Dimon and Lloyd Blankfein. Your credit card interest rate remained between 13% and 21%. So, while you struggle to pay bills with your declining real income, the Wall Street bankers are again generating record profits and paying themselves record bonuses. Profits are so good, they can afford to pay tens of billions in fines for their criminal acts, and still be left with billions to divvy up among their non-prosecuted criminal executives.
Bernanke and his financial elite owners have been able to rig the markets to give the appearance of normalcy, but they cannot rig the demographic time bomb that will cause the death and destruction of our illusory retail paradigm. Demographics cannot be manipulated or altered by the government or mass media. The best they can do is ignore or lie about the facts. The life cycle of a human being is utterly predictable, along with their habits across time. Those under 25 years old have very little income, therefore they have very little spending. Once a job is attained and income levels rise, spending rises along with the increased income. As the person enters old age their income declines and spending on stuff declines rapidly. The media may be ignoring the fact that annual expenditures drop by 40% for those over 65 years old from the peak spending years of 45 to 54, but it doesn’t change the fact. They also cannot change the fact that 10,000 Americans will turn 65 every day for the next sixteen years. They also can’t change the fact the average Baby Boomer has less than $50,000 saved for retirement and is up to their grey eye brows in debt.

With over 15% of all 25 to 34 year olds living in their parents’ basement and those under 25 saddled with billions in student loan debt, the traditional increase in income and spending is DOA for the millennial generation. The hardest hit demographic on the job front during the 2008 through 2014 ongoing recession has been the 45 to 54 year olds in their peak earning and spending years. Combine these demographic developments and you’ve got a perfect storm for over-built retailers and their egotistical CEOs.
The media continues to peddle the storyline of on-line sales saving the ancient bricks and mortar retailers. Again, the talking head pundits are willfully ignoring basic math. On-line sales account for 6% of total retail sales. If a dying behemoth like JC Penney announces a 20% decline in same store sales and a 20% increase in on-line sales, their total change is still negative 17.6%. And they are still left with 1,100 decaying stores, 100,000 employees, lease payments, debt payments, maintenance costs, utility costs, inventory costs, and pension costs. Their future is so bright they gotta wear a toe tag.
The decades of mal-investment in retail stores was enabled by Greenspan, Bernanke, and their Federal Reserve brethren. Their easy money policies enabled Americans to live far beyond their true means through credit card debt, auto debt, mortgage debt, and home equity debt. This false illusion of wealth and foolish spending led mega-retailers to ignore facts and spread like locusts across the suburban countryside. The debt fueled orgy has run out of steam. All that is left is the largest mountain of debt in human history, a gutted and debt laden former middle class, and thousands of empty stores in future decaying ghost malls haunting the highways and byways of suburbia.
The implications of this long and winding road to ruin are far reaching. Store closings so far have only been a ripple compared to the tsunami coming to right size the industry for a future of declining spending. Over the next five to ten years, tens of thousands of stores will be shuttered. Companies like JC Penney, Sears and Radio Shack will go bankrupt and become historical footnotes. Considering retail employment is lower today than it was in 2002 before the massive retail expansion, the future will see in excess of 1 million retail workers lose their jobs. Bernanke and the Feds have allowed real estate mall owners to roll over non-performing loans and pretend they are generating enough rental income to cover their loan obligations. As more stores go dark, this little game of extend and pretend will come to an end. Real estate developers will be going belly-up and the banking sector will be taking huge losses again. I’m sure the remaining taxpayers will gladly bailout Wall Street again. The facts are not debatable. They can be ignored by the politicians, Ivy League economists, media talking heads, and the willfully ignorant masses, but they do not cease to exist.

Health benefits of cabbage juice for acid reflux issues and ulcers studied

(Photo by Adam Berry/Getty Images). Can of sauerkraut in Berlin, Germany.

November 15, 2012
Your brain becomes its own painkiller when certain endorphins are excreted. Scientists are researching whether specific cultured, fermented foods can heal. Can cabbage juice made with its own cultured 'good' bacteria help to heal ulcers caused by 'bad' bacteria that eats away at your innards? Also check out the articles, Stop stomach ulcers with the miracle remedy of cabbage and Ulcers - Dr. Ronald Hoffman - The Hoffman Center - WOR Radio.
Doctors know most ulcers are caused by H. pylori bacteria. What effects would cabbage juice have on bacteria? Check out the video, New Types of Healthy Bacteria Found in Kimchi, which is Korean-style pickled cabbage and cabbage juice.
Scientists have discovered that these bacteria help bolster the human immune system and reduce chances of acquiring cancer by minimizing cancer-causing substances in the intestine. The researchers cultured these two strains in large amounts and made it into powdered form, according to the video.
Cabbage juice in medical studies
According to the article, "HCL Stomach Acid Test," published at the Seven Seeds Healthy Living website, Nov. 20, 2008, cabbage juice in medical studies has been shown to heal some stomach ulcers. The active ingredient is an amino acid called L-glutamine, which nourishes the cells lining the esophagus and stomach so they repair themselves.
The article also suggests juicing 4-8 ounces of cabbage and drinking it after meals. That article mentions that to avoid gas (if your body reacts that way to the cabbage juice) take 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of L-glutamine, mixed with 1/4 cup of water, after eating. Dr. Robert Downs, who heads the Southwest Center of Healing Arts in Albuquerque, New Mexico, recommends a special concoction to relieve the heartburn of a hiatal hernia: one part aloe vera juice and four parts papaya juice blended 50/50 with mineral water or club soda, sipped often during the day, according to that article. Test a little aloe vera in your body to make sure you're not allergic to it or to the papaya juice.
Herbs effective for heartburn
Members of a group of herbs called carminatives relax the lower esophageal sphincter. When that sphincter is relaxed, the stomach acids slosh back up into your esophagus when you lie down and cause acid reflux symptoms.
So stay away from the herbal mint teas such as spearmint and peppermint herbal teas or combinations of herbal teas containing these herbs because they're carminatives. Also stay away from fennel and lemon balm as they're also carminatives and sometimes found in combination herbal caffeine-free teasans.
Stomach acid test looks at food-based alternatives
Cutting back on spicy foods, onions, and acidic juices such as citrus or tomato, saturated fats-especially deep-fried foods, alcohol, coffee, tea, white sugar, and unrefined carbohydrates. The article, "HCL Stomach Acid Test," suggests the following homeopathic and alternative herbal remedies. Please talk to your doctor before taking anything unfamiliar as you don't know whether or not you're allergic to it or might have an adverse reaction or whether it's contraindicated mixed with your other medicines or supplements. That article suggests the following information for you to research:
Aloe Vera- Aloe gel contains very large sugar molecules called mucopolysaccharides. These special sugars have been shown to help heal burns, ulcers, and inflamed intestinal walls. 600 mg capsule form or 2 Tablespoons liquid form, 20 minutes before each meal, three times a day. That article mentions these alternative possibilities:
Homeopathic-Nux Vomica: 2 tablets of a 30C potency twice daily until symptoms are gone. Thereafter use as needed for occasional symptoms. If there is no improvement within one week, stop using it.
Slippery Elm: This is a wonderful anti-inflammatory and very soothing to mucous membranes. Suck on a lozenge after each meal or as needed. 500-1,000 capsule, tincture, or tea after each meal. Caution: Avoid taking medication at the exact same time, they should be taken one hour apart.
An article in the journal Alternative Therapies, Jul/Aug 2008 Vol14. No.4, (PDF) Melatonin for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease - Encognitive.com, presented new studies of melatonin administration as a treatment for the symptoms of GERD. In the article, researchers found that the enterochromaffin cells of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract secret 400 times as much melatonin as the pineal gland. So it has been found to have an important role in GI functioning.
Researchers may want to keep our eye on this for a possible treatment. Read the PDF file of the article at the website, PDF] Melatonin for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease. DLPA amino acid blend from lentils and peas -- instead of pain medication?
Recently a study compared an over-the-counter prescription painkiller with a blend of amino acids taken from peas and lentils called DLPA. The pea and lentil extract boosted pain relief by boosting levels of endorphins in your brain.
Basically, your brain becomes its own painkiller when those endorphins are excreted. In fact, scientists sometimes say that brain endorphins are "at least three times stronger than morphine," according to one study noted in the article "Pain-proof your back," on page 16 of Woman's World magazine, Dec. 20, 2010 edition, now on newstands.
If you want to get deeper into the study on DLPA, check out the article, "Nutritional Therapy - DLPA, Vitamin B1 (Thiamin), Selenium," published at the site, 101 Alternative Healing. According to that article, "Dr. Seymour Ehrenpreis of the Chicago Medical School found that the amino acid DLPA (dl-phenylalanine) naturally protects the endorphins. Studies have shown that DLPA allows the patient's natural levels of endorphins to rise, reducing or eliminating long-standing chronic pain."
Researchers have found that the brain produces its own pain killers that resemble morphine. The chemicals are called endorphins. The problem is the body also destroys the endorphins. DLPA works to decrease pain, but it's not like a fast-acting pill because it takes from two days to six weeks for DLPA to allow your body's endorphin levels to increase enough to block some types of pain.
Scientists also found that DLPA also strengthens the painkilling effects of aspirin. You can buy this extract from peas and lentils in many health food stores. Don't take DLPA during pregnancy and/or lactation. Also don't take DLPA if you have a genetic condition called PKU (phenylketonuria. Don't take DLPA if you're on a phenylalanine-restricted diet. And don't give DLPA to anyone under age 14.
List of Foods Helping People with Acid Reflux
Here's a list of foods that generally help people with acid reflux conditions. For more information, see the Heart Burn Alliance Organization site. Notice that most of the foods are made without added fats or oils that can cause more acid to be produced to digest them.
To fight acid reflux, keep a food diary to identify foods that trigger heartburn. Some people have too little stomach acid rather than too much, or the stomach acid isn't producing enough digestive enzymes as people age. For example, people with type O blood produce a stronger stomach acid than people with type A blood, according to numerous naturopaths.

Pay close attention to portion size for all foods you eat each day. Note what quantities, if any, your stomach tolerates without acid reflux symptoms. According to the Heart Burn Alliance Organization website, "Use your “personal serving sizes” as a guide. Larger portions of any food are more likely to cause acid reflux, especially when you lie down.

How baking soda helps cancer patients

(NaturalHealth365) Sodium bicarbonate, better known as baking soda, has been used for decades as a first line of defense against every kind of ‘acidic’ health problem – including cancer. Naturally, the question remains – is there any proof that baking soda is a defense against cancer or any other chronic dis-ease?
History has much to teach us about natural healthcare. In a booklet titled, Arm & Hammer Baking Soda Medical Uses – published in 1924, Dr. Volney S. Cheney explains his clinical successes in using sodium bicarbonate to treat both the common cold and flu. His comments are actually quite remarkable…
“In 1918 and 1919 while fighting the ‘flu’ with the U. S. Public Health Service it was brought to my attention that rarely anyone who had been thoroughly alkalinized with bicarbonate of soda contracted the disease, and those who did contract it, if alkalinized early, would invariably have mild attacks.”
Sodium bicarbonate has been and still is used to make the urine less acidic. This helps the kidneys get rid of uric acid and is used medically to prevent gout and kidney stones. Even athletes use sodium bicarbonate to improve endurance. In fact, cells that have enough bicarbonate consume more energy at rest – so they are better able to transport glucose and lactate.
Can baking soda help cancer patients heal naturally?
Dr. Mark Pagel, of the University of Arizona Cancer Center, is going to use a $2 million dollar grant from the National Institutes of Health to study the effectiveness of baking soda as a treatment for breast cancer.
This is a clinical trial on the use of oral baking soda for breast cancer. The grand was awarded because of the cancer research that Dr. Robert J. Gilles and colleagues have already successfully demonstrated with the pre-treatment of mice – using baking soda – to alkalize the area around cancer tumors.
They have shown that sodium bicarbonate increases tumor pH, inhibits spontaneous metastases and reduces the rate of lymph node involvement in mice with breast cancer. And, the news gets even better…
Baking soda has been shown to suppress malignancies; treat the acid-alkaline axis by balancing the pH of cells and tissues and increases cell voltage.
By increasing oxygenation – baking soda prevents cells from turning cancerous and returns malignant cells to a healthy state. Sodium bicarbonate has been recommended for weak cancer patients. In a few days of treatment with sodium bicarbonate the cells in the muscles perform better.
How does baking soda prevent cellular damage?
The pH level of our internal fluids affects every cell in our body. Chronic over-acidity corrodes body tissue, and if left unchecked will interrupt all cellular activities and functions. In other words, over-acidity interferes with life itself. It is one of the root causes of cancer.
Every cell in the body requires oxygen to survive and maintain optimum health. The lower the ph – the less oxygen is available for the cells. This is shown when acid rain changes lakes; the fish suffocate because the lake binds up all the available oxygen.
The oxygen is there, but is no longer available and if you raise the lakes oxygen the lake will spring back to life.
How does ‘alkalinity’ help to prevent disease?
Keeping our pH within a healthy range also involves necessary lifestyle and dietary changes that will protect us over the long term. The use of sodium bicarbonate will give us a jump start toward increased alkalinity. In essence, sodium bicarbonate could be considered a ‘natural medicine’, and ought to be respected. Keep in mind, if our pH goes far above (or below) the ‘acceptable’ range – our risk for disease goes way up.
Drinking bicarbonate of soda dissolved in water has long been used to relieve the signs and symptoms of arthritis, indigestion, heartburn, and infection – among other maladies. Traditionally, sodium bicarbonate has been used as an antacid.
Did you know that we produce our own bicarbonate? Thanks to the work of our pancreas – bicarbonate neutralize acids coming from the stomach to make the environment right for pancreatic enzymes to be effective.
A word of caution – before using baking soda
One of the precautions in using sodium bicarbonate is its sodium content and it is thus advised for patients with high blood pressure to refrain from taking it. Sodium bicarbonate along with citrate and phosphate salts do not raise blood pressure to the extent that sodium chloride does.
Table salt is a refined salt containing about 97 to 99 percent sodium chloride. We know for a fact that processed (‘table’) salt does raise blood pressure in only those sensitive to it. But, obviously – hypertension is caused by much more than just the use of table salt.
A study on mineral water containing sodium bicarbonate confirmed the absence of any effect on elderly individuals’ blood pressure. But, as usual, consult with a trusted healthcare provider – to discover the safest way to use sodium bicarbonate – based on individual needs.
