Congressman Blasts CDC for Incestuous Relationship with Vaccine Makers
Congressman Bill Posey compares CDC’s Vaccine Safety Studies to SEC’s Handling of Bernie Madoff Scandal
Christof Lehmann (nsnbc) : US Congressman Bill Posey demanded, during a half-hour radio interview, transparency about the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and its handling of vaccine safety studies, stressing that the incestuous relationship between the CDC and vaccine makers affects the nations most precious resource, which are children.
Congressman Posey appeared on the “A Conversation of Hope” radio show where he discussed the CDC and vaccine safety with biochemist Brian Hooker PhD. Hooker and Posey discussed what Posey described as “the incestuous relationship between the public health community, vaccine makers, and public officials”. Posey represents Florida’s 8th Congressional District. A Republican, Posey was elected to U.S. House of Representatives in 2008 and is currently serving his third term.
Posey didn’t hold back when he criticized current and past officials, including Dr. Poul Thorsen, about the former CDC Director Dr. Julie Gerberding who moved on to become pharma giant Merck’s Vaccine President, as well as the CDC’s current spokesperson on autism and vaccines, Dr. Coleen Boyle. Congressman Posey didn’t stop short of branding former CDC Director Thorsen “a crook”, saying:
“If you read through the emails and learned about the meetings and the financial arrangement this crook had with the CDC, it will make you absolutely sick to your stomach. This was no casual researcher way down the line. This is the CDC’s key man in Denmark. He was closely tied to the CDC’s top vaccine safety researchers… as long as Thorsen was cooking the books to produce the results they wanted, they didn’t care whether the studies were valid or how much money was being siphoned off the top…It’s like the Security and Exchange Commission and Bernie Madoff. But it’s worse because we’re talking about someone who basically stole money that was supposed to be used to improve the health and safety of our most vulnerable in our society – our young babies.”
The “CDC’s Man in Denmark” has according to Dr. Hooker collaborated with the CDC on 36 paper, not on one as claimed by Dr. Boyle. Moreover, Dr. Hooker added, the agency refused to investigate studies exonerating vaccine’s role in causing autism following his indictment on wire fraud and money laundering. Talking about Boyle, Congressman Posey didn’t hold back either, calling her evasive. About Boyle’s conduct during a Congressional hearing, Posey said:
“I asked her a very direct question. ‘Have you done a study comparing autism rates in vaccinated vs. unvaccinated children?…’ She started telling us about everything she’s done …After she wasted three minutes, I cut her off and I demanded that she answer the question. And then, only then, did she admit that the federal government has never done that very simple, fundamental, basic study.”
Posey blamed Boyle and the CDC for omitting and denying the evidence for a link between vaccines and the epidemic rise in autism, and dishonesty in their claim that the rise in autism was due to better diagnosis, saying:
“I know we have an autism epidemic. You know it. She knows it. But for some reasons they refuse to acknowledge it publicly. …I don’t think anybody that’s intellectually honest with this issue can begin to fathom that lame excuse that she uses.”
Posey also addressed the issue of orchestrated campaigns on behalf of the CDC and the vaccine industry, noting that people “do a lot of blogging and (are) shredding anyone who dares question the unaccountable bureaucrats”.
nsnbc noted a clear attempt to derail genuine dialog in comments to articles pertaining vaccine safety issues. Within a 12 months period from February 2013 to March 2014, nsnbc registered more than 30 different “commentators with different names, who together attempted to post more than 500 comments, posted from only two different IP addresses in Australia and the USA, with one of them leading directly to a pharma sponsored pro-vaccine website.
The core strategies used are ad hominem attacks, attempts to discredit, strawman attacks, and, remarkably, also outlandish anti-vaccine claims and attempt to distract the call for transparency by posing as an “obviously” irresponsible parent or by asking for medical advise so as to detract from debates about oversight, transparency and vaccine safety issues.
Congressman Posey referred to the bloggers and tolls as “their little media network (that will) twist the truth to disparage, to malign, to vilify, to denigrate anybody who wants any kind of accountability”.
About his co-sponsorship of Rep. Caroly Maloney’s Vaccine Safety Study Act, Posey said that the proposed legislation would compel government to conduct a retrospective “vaccinated vs. unvaccinated study of health outcomes”, which he felt could be done with accountability and direct oversight by government. Posey concluded:
“The CDC cannot be trusted regarding investigating vaccine safety. Huge conflict of interest. I think that the CDC should be investigated”.
Congressman Posey is, by no means, speaking on behalf of a political minority or fringe. A research letter published in the Journal of the American Medical Association “Internal Medicine” in March 2014, reveals that over half of Americans either believe doctors and the government still want to vaccinate children even though they know these vaccines cause autism and other psychological disorders or are undecided on the question. 69% of the 1361 participants had heard of this issue before. 20% believe it, 36% were undecided [neither agreed nor disagreed] and 44% disagreed.
A recent study, published in the Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics, conducted by Light, Lexchin and Darrow, warns that the pharmaceutical industry has corrupted the practice of medicine through its influence over what drugs are developed, how they are tested, and how medical knowledge is created.
The researchers warn that since 1906, commercial influence has compromised Congressional legislation to protect the public from unsafe drugs, adding that the authorization of user fees in 1992 has turned drug companies into the FDA’s prime clients, deepening the regulatory and cultural capture of the agency. The Harvard scientists warned that the USA is facing an epidemic of side effects caused by corruption.
