China calling upon India to pursue a policy of restraint and responsibility has hoped that Pakistan and India would work together to combat terrorism.
These views were expressed by Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi who called on Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday to discuss bilateral relations, and global and regional situation.

Both the Foreign Ministers expressed complete satisfaction over the smooth progress in Pakistan-China strategic, political and economic cooperation. It was noted that the pace of economic interaction has gained momentum after the visit of President Asif Ali Zardari to China in October 2008 and vowed to further promote bilateral cooperation.

Discussing the present situation in South Asia, Foreign Minister Qureshi underlined the need for India to pursue a policy of restraint and responsibility. The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan was in full compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 1267 and that it was ready to conduct a joint investigation with India into the Mumbai incident, provided relevant evidence was furnished.

The Chinese Foreign Minister hoped that Pakistan and India would work together to combat terrorism. He called for peace and stability in South Asia emphasizing that the escalation of tensions was not in the interest of either India or Pakistan. He assured that China would remain in close contact with Pakistan in the pursuance of peace and stability in the region.
