Grape seed extract kills cancer cells
(NaturalHealth365) Have you heard the news about grape seed extract? Most cancer patients would be shocked to discover the cancer killing properties of this natural food product. Why isn’t this being reported as a major news story? I’m sure you’ve guessed it – powerful drug companies; narrow-minded conventional doctors and weak politicians makes it almost impossible to hear about (effective) natural cancer therapies. But, they exist, help us spread the news and let’s save some lives!
Colon cancer patients find hope within the plant kingdom
Researchers from the University of Colorado (CU) Cancer Center reported, in the Cancer Letters journal, that grape seed extract is effective in inhibiting the growth of colorectal cancer cells. The breakthrough news is that the more advance the colorectal cancer cells are, the more grape seed extract stops their growth and survival. This is done without harming healthy cells, which means healing can take place without suffering the negative side effects of chemotherapy and radiation.
Molly Derry, a doctoral candidate in the lab of Rajesh Agarwal, PhD, investigator at the CU Cancer Center and professor at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, said:
“We’ve known for quite a while that the bioactive compounds in grape seed extract selectively target many types of cancer cells. This study shows that many of the same mutations that allow colorectal cancer cells to metastasize and survive traditional therapies make them especially sensitive to treatment with GSE.”
The team carried out a study on colorectal cancer cell lines which represented several stages of the disease. It is widely-known that larger chemotherapy doses are needed to kill cancer cells, in a stage-4 cancer patient versus a stage-2 individual. But, researchers discovered that as far as grape seed extract (GSE) was concerned it was the opposite.
Derry said, “It required less than half the concentration of GSE to suppress cell growth and kill 50 percent of stage IV cells than it did to achieve similar results in the stage II cells.”
Could natural foods be the future of modern medicine?
If conventional oncologists really care about cancer patient outcomes – then they must remain open to all the possible forms of treatment. Of course, we’ll also have to demand changes in medical laws that threaten any physician that promotes natural therapies. You don’t hear about this kind of news because doctors are told to ignore it! Just stick to the “acceptable” forms of cancer therapy such as, surgery, chemotherapy drugs or radiation.
Back to grape seed extract – why is it so effective at killing cancer cells? According to Molly Derry, “a colorectal cancer cell can have upwards of 11,000 genetic mutations-differences from the DNA in healthy cells. Traditional chemotherapies may only target a specific mutation and as cancer progresses more mutations occur. These changes can result in cancer that is resistance to chemotherapy. In contrast the many bioactive compounds of GSE are able to target multiple mutations. The more mutations a cancer present, the more effective GSE is in targeting them.”
There are more than a few studies over the years, which show that grape seeds have anti-cancer components which work on breast, prostate, leukemia cells, head and neck cancer cells, and colorectal tumor growth. Grape seed extract creates conditions, which are unfavorable to cancer cell growth. It does this by both damaging cancer cells DNA, and by stoping the pathways that allow cancer cells to repair.
The most prudent course of action is to incorporate organic grape seed extract and grape seed oil into your daily routine. Keep in mind, commercial grapes are often sprayed with pesticides; this is one fruit product that must be organic.
There are many ways to incorporate grape seed oil into the diet – try some on your salad. Grape seed extract can be bought in capsules from 100-200 milligrams and the recommended dose is just one or two capsules per day. In addition, look for standardized grape seed extracts that contain at least 40 to 80 percent proanthocyanidins for best protective value.
