Blagojevich Got His Start as Bookie, Paid Chicago Mob

ABC News in Chicago is reporting that Rod Blagojevich got his start in politics as a bookmaker on Chicago’s Northside. “The ABC7 I-Team has learned that an attorney who went undercover for the FBI in the late 1980’s says he told federal authorities years ago about wrongdoing by Blagojevich,” the news station reports. “When I was working with government wearing wire, I reported, I observed Rod, the present governor, who was running a gambling operation out in the western suburbs. He was paying street tax to the mob out there,” said Robert Cooley, federal informant.

He told ABC7 that Mr. Blagojevich regularly paid a so-called street tax to Robert “Bobby the Boxer” Abbinanti, a convicted outfit gambling collector. In the early 1980’s, Abbinanti was working for convicted West Side mob boss Marco D’amico. Bookies pay street taxes to the crime syndicate in exchange for being allowed to operate such a racket.

It makes perfect sense Blagojevich attempted to sell Obama’s Senate seat to the highest bidder. “I predicted five years ago when he ran the first time that he was a hands on person who would be selling every position in the state of Illinois and that it exactly what happened,” said Cooley.

“The biggest problem you have now and reason for what is happening is that the people in power have money and ability to silence the media so it will never be reported and as long as you have that going on, you will never stop it.”

It is not so much that the media is silenced, rather the corporate media is in on the scam. It covers for endemic government corruption that has tainted all sectors, from the California Highway Patrol assistant and deputy chiefs claiming disability at retirement to inflate their pensions to $50 billion of the taxpayers’ money spent each year on Medicaid fraud, waste and misuse in New York. All of this pales in comparison to the latest shake down by the banksters as they raid the Treasury and crank up the debt owed by Americans for generations to come.

Getting rid of big government corruption was part of the founding principles of America. The corrupt British monarchy was unfairly taxing and shaking down the colonialists and using them as a meal ticket to finance their wars. More than two hundred years later, the American government has embraced corruption and fine-tuned it in ways the monarchy never imagined.

Blagojevich’s connection to the Chicago mob is not surprising. But when you think about it, the corruption in Chicago is small potatoes when compared to the larger corruption of the U.S. government. It runs a massive shake down and protection operation every April 15. If you agree to fork over around half of your income to various government operations — federal, state, and local — these governments promise not to arrest you and throw you in a jail cell with murderers, rapists, and drug addicts. The Chicago mob couldn’t even hope to do this.
