A surprising cause of skin cancer revealed

Conventionally speaking, the cause of skin cancer remains a “mystery”.
They tell us to fear the sun; use toxic sunscreen lotions and hope for
the best. Does this sound like an intelligent, scientific community
geared toward helping society?Consumers are warned about the summer sun and ultraviolet (UV) rays because of the cancer risk. But, no one within the lighting industry wants you to know about a new source of these harmful rays – the “eco-friendly” compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs).
It’s time to expose a dirty, little secret about skin cancer
A possible cause of skin cancer might be right in your home or office. Exposing your skin to compact fluorescent bulbs can lead to premature aging of the skin and a risk of skin cancers – including melanoma. By the way, these cancer risks are supported by prominent scientists throughout the world.
Energy efficiency light bulbs come with hidden hazards for anyone within two feet of them. Researchers, at Stony Brook University, found these light bulbs leaked significant levels of UVC and UVA. This study was published in the journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology.
The scientists, led by Miriam Rafailovich, collected CFL bulbs from across Long Island, New York to measure the amount of UV the bulbs gave off. They were alarmed that many of the bulbs lacked a sufficient (protective) coating of phosphor – causing the leakage. They found that cracks in the compact bulbs was due to the fact that the coatings are brittle and had trouble making the bends required to make the bulbs.
Rafailovich is on record saying, “skin cells exposed to compact fluorescent light emissions showed the same damage as those exposed to UV light” when placed at close range. This is an estimate of less then two feet away from the bulb. All the bulbs, no matter which brand tested under laboratory conditions showed they can damage cells in the same way that UV radiation from the sun does.
A major call to action – stop buying fluorescent bulbs
The above study was done after some alarming reports came out in Israel, stating that there was a spike in skin cancer on a communal farm when the residents switched to fluorescent bulbs.
In the past two years, reports have shown up in the European Union literature, which stated that exposure to CFL bulbs seemed to be responsible for certain skin conditions such as photodematoses and skin cancer in humans. This information was published in the journal Photochemistry and Photobiology.
Fluorescent light far more dangerous than sunlight
UV light comes in three varieties: UVA, UVB and UVC. In skin cells, UVA creates reactive oxygen, which can penetrate into the skin. Outdoor sunlight exposes people to UVA and UVB.
UVC is usually scattered away by air, so we usually aren’t exposed to it while outside. With compact fluorescent light we are close to the source and it doesn’t dissipate like it would in an open air environment. That’s why fluorescent lighting is so dangerous.
UVC damages DNA and this growing concern over the danger of these light bulbs could finally put an end to this harmful product. The claims that the incandescent bulbs ban was imposed to fight global warming were fabricated according to analysis; the motive was and is profit – incandescent bulbs have a low profit margin.
So what is the solution? Buy LED lights, which contain no mercury and are significantly more energy efficient than both incandescent lights and fluorescent lights. They are expensive to purchase up front, but they pay for themselves in about two years – thanks to the savings in electricity (and they keep on working for 50,000 hours!).
